본 논문은 페미니즘적 관점을 통해 핵개발 담론에 내재된 권위주의적이고 폭력적이고 가부장적 종교성과 이와 관련된 핵개발 기술의 주도자와 그 피해자들이 겪는 심리적인 문제를 조명한다. 우리가 일상에서 접하는 핵에너지에 대한 상상이 반영되고 재현된 광고, 영화에는 핵에너지 사용의 치명적인 효과보다는 그 가공할만한 파괴력이 매력적으로 등장하는 경우가 많다. 역사적으로 핵에너지 발전은 핵무기 개발의 산물이며, 핵개발 담론에서는 대안 에너지에 대한 새로운 가능성이 고려되지 않는다. 현재와 미래에 닥칠 파국의 가능성을 절대적으로 부인하고, 핵에너지를 청정에너지로 간주하고 기술적으로 완벽한 통제가 가능하다는 주장을 통해 우리는 핵담론에 내재된 종교적이고 비의적인 성격을 알 수 있다. 이러한 기술에 대한 맹목적 숭배의 이면에는 이성과 합리성을 강조하고 감정과 육체성을 폄하하며, 대안에너지의 기술조차도 연약한 것으로 치부해버리는 매우 폭력적인 남성성이 도사리고 있다. 기술을 통한 인간과 자연의 철저한 통제를 숭배하는 핵개발 담론은 폭력적이고 지배적인 가부장적 신을 숭배하는 것과 같은 모습을 보여준다. 이렇게 가공된 심리적 문화적 공간 안에서 핵무기와 핵에너지 사용의 피해자들의 심리상태는 이러한 폭력에 지속적으로 노출되어 "심리적 마비"를 경험하게 된다. 이러한 성찰을 통해 우리는 핵에너지에 대한 절대적 신앙을 강요받고 있는 한국의 현실 속에서 철저히 소외된 여성성과 피해자들이 놓인 상황이 어떠한 것인지 이해할 수 있다. 페미니즘적 관점을 통해 이러한 종교적 상징체계의 해체와 그 가속화를 촉진시킬 수 있으며, 이를 통하여 핵의 야누스적인 본질이 더 폭로될 수 있을 것이다.
This paper attempts to show, through feminist perspectives, the violent, authoritarian and patriarchal religiosity deeply integrated within pro-nuclear energy discourse and the psychological problems faced by both advocates and victims of nuclear technology. In advertisements for and movies with nuclear energy one may see in daily life, the use of the nuclear energy is more often than not portrayed as attractive and mysterious tool rather than a destructive force. Historically, the first advancements in nuclear energy were violent: to produce nuclear weapons; the very possibility of nuclear energy as an alternative energy was not considered in early pro-nuclear discourse. This neglect of all potential future catastrophes, and claiming that the nuclear energy was absolutely clean and safe, indicated an implicit but unreal faith in the pro-nuclear discourses. This belies a very violent masculinity lurking in this faith in the nuclear energy technology, a masculinity that emphasized reason and rationality, discounted or disparaged the emotional and physical properties, and regarded natural alternative energies as fragile and powerless. This paper will demonstrate how nuclear development discourse that promoted control of the human-being and hegemony over nature through technology is parallel to worshiping a violent and dominant patriarchal god. The victims of pro-nuclear weapons and nuclear energy discourse, exposed to the continual violence of the artificial psychological and cultural space, experience ``psychic numbing``. Reflecting upon this through feminist lenses, we can understand the situation in which of femininity is rendered invisible in the pro-nuclear discourse. Using feminist perspectives, this paper will seek to expose the Janus-faced nature of nuclear energy rhetoric by pro-nuclear discourses.
