본 연구에서는 지적장애인이 참여한 포토보이스 연구의 동향을 분석하고, 향후 연구를 위한 실천적 함의와 발전과제를 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선정기준 및 절차에 따라 24편의 논문을 선정하였고, 발표 연도와 출처, 연구 참여자의 수와 연령, 연구 기간, 진실성 검증 방안, 포토보이스 결과물 활용 방안 및 연구 주제에 따라 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국외에서는 2003년도 지적장애인 포토보이스 연구가 처음 발표되었고, 그 이후 꾸준히 그 수가 증가해오고 있으나 국내에 발표된 포토보이스 논문은 1편뿐이었다. 둘째, 대학생이나 성인이 참여한 연구가 많았고, 참여자 수는 대부분 10명 이하였다. 셋째, 연구기간을 제시한 논문은 11편뿐이었는데, 포토보이스가 충분한 연구기간이 필요한 연구임에도 불구하고, 1~2개월의 비교적 짧은 기간 동안 이루어진 연구가 많았다. 넷째, 연구의 진실성을 검증하기 위해 현장 방문, 관찰, 관계자 면담 및 본인과의 심층면담과 같은 방법이 사용되었다. 그러나 과반수이상의 연구가 진실성 검증 방안에 대해 언급하지 않았다. 다섯째, 포토보이스 결과물을 발표하기 위해 사진 전시회, 제도나 정책 관련 이해 관계자들과의 회의, 관련 기관에 보고서 제출, 언론매체 및 웹사이트 활용과 같은 방법이 주로 사용되었다. 여섯째, 연구주제는 지적장애인의 지역사회 통합, 주거환경 증진, 건강관과 건강증진에 대한 요구로 범주화되었다. 지적장애인 포토보이스 연구를 효과적으로 실행하기 위해서는 참여자 주도성과 함께 촉진자의 보완적 개입이 고려되어야 하고, 참여자의 사진 촬영과 토론 과정을 지원하기 위한 구체적인 전략이 마련되어야 한다. 결론에서는 전반적 연구 동향과 실행 전략을 고찰한 결과로부터 향후 연구를 위한 발전 과제와 시사점을 제언하였다.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the trends in the field of photovoice with people with intellectual disabilities and suggest effective practices and directions for future research. for this purpose, a total of 24 studies were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzed in terms of publication year and source, the number and age of participants, duration, veracity, presentation of findings and research theme. the results were as follows. First, the number of studies has been increased since 2003 when the first photovoice with intellectual disabilities was published. however, only one study has been published in Korea. Second, mostly, the number of participants was less 10 and majority of them were university students and adults. Third, just 11 studies mentioned the duration and most of them was less than 1 to 2 months which is relatively short to conduct a photovoice. Fourth, regarding the veracity, site visit, observation, in-depth interview personally or with person concerned were usually used. but majority of the studies didn’t mention it at all. Fifth, photo exhibition, report to administrative agencies, town hall meeting attended by community stake holders, news media and web site were frequently used to present the findings of the photovoice, Sixth, the theme of the studies were organized into three themes including the need for community inclusion, residential environment improvement and health promotion. Based on these results, practice and implications for future research were discussed.
