본 연구는 지구화와 국가의 재구조화 속에서 이루어진 외국인 이주자의 증가와 이로 인해 발생하는 다양한 사회·경제·정치의 문제를 권리와 책임, 그리고 소속으로서 이주자 시민권의 관점으로 고찰하였다. 국가 시민권은 초국가적 혹은 트랜스로컬적 사회·경제·문화 공간에 위치한 이주자 시민권을 취급하는데 한계성을 보이고 있다. 본 연구는 이주자 시민권을 중층적 관계공간, 스케일 정치, 일상생활, 그리고 수행성의 관점에서 고찰하였다. 이주자 시민권은 사회·경제·문화적으로 다층화된 공간에 위치한 상이한 시민권들이 충돌하는 경계지대에서 일어나는 스케일 정치에 의해서 형성되고 있다. 복잡하고 역동적 특성을 지닌 이주자 시민권은 일상생활과 수행성을 통해 보다 구체적으로 이해될 수 있다. 이러한 이주자 시민권은 다양한 후속 사례 연구를 위한 길잡이 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 경험적 연구결과들의 축적을 통해 시민권의 개념 혹은 이론이 보다 정교하게 만들어 질 것이다.

This study is to investigate foreign immigrants’ citizenship as rights and belonging of solving their socio-political and cultural problems which are related to the increase of the immigrants occurred in globalization and the restructuring of a nation-state. The citizenship of a nation-state has limits to deal with immigrant’s citizenship because it is located in a transnational or translocal socio-cultural and economic space. The study critically examined immigrant’s citizenship through a multilayered relational space, the politics of scale, everyday life, and performativity. Immigrant’s citizenship will be produced and changed in a site in which there are conflicts among different kinds of citizenships located in a multilayered relational space socially, economically, and culturally. Immigrant’s citizenship being complex and dynamic can be concretely understood by everyday life and performativity. The conceptual framework to immigrant’s citizenship proposed in the study will be used as a guide for empirical research and also should be articulated from the accumulation of its results.
