Choi In-hoon depicts the reality of the 1960s indirectly using the device of illusion, rather than being direct and realistic. “Guwoonmong” portrays revolutions through the illusion of a dream, and this can be seen as an effort to give meanings to 4.19 Revolution and 5.16 Coup d``etata in expanded time and space. Also, considering external circumstances, it is much easier to reflect the author’s experience and thoughts about 4.19 Revolution to illusionary space. “Guwoonmong” depicts everything that happens while Dokgomin searches for Suk and what he experiences can be seen as metonymy for 4.19 Revolution and 5.16 Coup d``etata. This paper portrayed the aspect of revolution shown in “Guwoonmong” from three perspectives. First, the dream that appears in the beginning of “Guwoonmong” alludes that the dream shows what is going to happen to Dokgomin. Second, “Guwoonmong” repeatedly shows the process that Dokgomin meets writers, old bankers, dancers, a prisoner, Elena, and drunk people and runs away to the street. The ‘street’ becomes the foundation of limited spatial experience while representing 4.19 Revolution. So ‘street’ connotes disorder and desolateness and has double entendre that shows skepticism and anxiety of Dokgomin. Third, the broadcasting of the government force represents the authority that tries to stop 4.19 Revolution, that is, the position of the government. On the other hand, the broadcasting of the revolutionary army shows the spirit of 4.19 Revolution, which is symbolized as ‘freedom’, and the vivid moments of the revolution. So it can be said that “Guwoonmong” is a work that reproduces the incomplete 4.19 Revolution through Dokgomin’s dream and brings back the sealed memory of history.
