본 연구는 여성에 대한 교육을 목적으로 이상적 인물을 설정하여 전통적으로 여성들에게 강조되었던 부덕(婦德)의 실천 덕목을 형상화한 소설들, 즉 규훈소설을 대상으로 그 성립배경과 특성을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 규훈소설은 조선후기 여성교훈서가 사대부에 의해 활발하게 저작되고 필사본이 폭넓게 유통되며 규훈의 문학적 형상화가 다양하게 시도되는 분위기 속에서 등장하였다. 또한 소설 향유자들이 여성의 소설 독서에 대한 부정적 인식을 의식하여 소설의 창작, 유통 과정에서 교훈성을 강조하고 여훈을 위한 자료와 함께 필사하여 ‘읽을 만한 것’으로 만들고자 했던 노력이 규훈소설의 성립에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 < 초당□신부문답 >, < 설씨내범 >, < 유한당사씨언행록 > 등의 규훈소설은 비교적 현실적 맥락 위에서 허구적 세계를 구축하여 규훈서의 체제와 내용을 수용하고, 인물간의 대화 속에 규훈과 교양의 소양을 드러낼 수 있는 여러 경전과 고사, 고훈을 인용하며, 규훈을 배우고 실천을 강조하는 이상적 여성인물을 형상화하였다. 통속적 소재를 중심으로 다루기보다는 소설 속에 교양과 규훈의 전개와 실천을 다루면서 새로운 경향의 소설화 방식을 기획할 수 있었다. 또 규훈소설의 성립과 전변 과정에서 여성에게 요구되는 특정 덕목과 윤리를 형상화한 작품들도 등장하였는데, 이들은 규훈소설의 자장을 확대하면서 규훈의 보수성과 현실적 요구가 소설화 과정에서 다양하게 작동하는 양상을 보여주었다.

This study aims to illuminate the established background and characteristics of novel shaping virtues of female for women``s education. Seolssinaebeom, The chronicle of Euhandang Sassi’s sayings and doings, Chodangja and the bride``s dialogue were utilizing a system of confucian Women’s classics, are quoted scripture in the dialogue of the characters, were shaping the ideal person to practice virtues of women. A novel depicting a lesson for women while such an attempt could be planning a new fictionalized manner. A novel depicting a lesson for women in the process of establishing and changing, it was also a fiction created around a virtue for women. They expanded the field of a novel depicting a lesson for women, and showed a process for variously operating the conservative aspects and the practical needs of a lesson for women
