사르트르에게 있어서 ‘실존적 자유’를 토대로 한 ‘행위’, ‘실천’을 의미하는 ‘앙가주망 (engagement)’이란 직접 사회 문제에 참여, 즉 ‘앙가제(s``engager)’하여 조금씩 세계를 변화시 킴으로써 결과적으로 자기 선택의 폭, 행위의 범위를 확장시키는 것이며, 이는 그의 ‘행위주의 (activism)’의 요체를 이루는 중심 개념이다. 즉, ‘상황을 변화시킴으로써 자기를 해방시켜라.’ 가 사르트르의 ‘앙가주망``으로 대변되는 실존주의적 윤리학의 궁극적 목적이자 모토였으며, 이는 그가 활동하던 시대에 그를 날카로운 사회비판과 사회참여로 이끌도록 한 원동력이었다. 사르트르의 ’앙가주망‘ 개념은 현 시점에서 한국 교육계가 처해 있는 문제 상황, 즉 이론과 실천의 괴리, 참여적 행위의 부재, 도덕적 해이 상태를 딛고 일어서 근본적인 변화를 일으키고, 더 나아가 아동, 청소년들이 앞으로 다가 올 불확실한 미래에 대비할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 반드시 주목해야 할 개념이다. 이와 같은 문제의식 및 연구의 필요성에 터하여 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 연구목적 하에 연구를 수행한다. 첫째, 사르트르의 ‘앙가주망’ 개념이 성립되기 위한 철학적 기초로서 그의 가장 대표적인 철학적 저서인 『존재와 무』를 탐색한다. 둘째, 사르트르의 ‘앙가주망’ 개념이 과연 우리에게 어떤 시사점을 줄 수 있는지 알기 위하여 『실존주의는 휴머니즘이다』, 『문학이란 무엇인가』, 그의 두 실천적 저서들에 나타난 ‘앙가주망’ 개념의 실존주의적 특성이 무엇인지 살펴본다. 셋째, 이상 살펴본 내용에 따를 때 사르트르의 ‘앙가주망’ 개념으로부터 우리가 교육, 교육학적 차원에서 어떤 시사점을 도출해 낼 수 있는지 살펴본다. 사르트르의 ‘앙가주망’ 개념이 도입될 때 아동, 학생은 기본적으로 ‘불안’, ‘고독’, ‘권태’의 정조의 상태에 처해 있는 존재이며, 배움이란 교사와의 실존적 ‘만남’을 통하여 ‘각성’을 의미한다. 실존주의적 학교는 보다 유연한 틀 속에서 아동이 교사, 학우들과 다양한 형식의 ‘만남’을 가질 수 있도록 꾸며지고, 자신의 주체적이며 이성적인 판단을 통하여 결단을 내리고 그 결단을 올바른 ‘실천’, ‘행위’, ‘앙가주망’에로 옮길 수 있도록 구성되어야 할 것이다.

For J. P. Sartre, one of the most representative figures in ‘existentialism’ in 20th Century, ‘engagement’ means the ‘existential freedom’, which is based on ‘actions’, with which one can change the world gradually. ‘Engagement’ as a political action, practice can be regarded as ‘self-liberation’, by changing circumstances. J. P. Sartre said, his ‘engagement’ in real world around himself means the ultimate goal of existential ethics and was a motto he followed in his real lifetime. As practitioners in education or educators or teacher we are faced with the very complicated situation in our present time, that is, the gap between theory and practice, the absence of participatory action in the field of education or pedagogy. Especially we have to overcome the moral hazard in our real world, that is in schools, educational institutions of our nation, in order to change the conditions of our lives ultimately. I am very aware of these issues and have purpose to research three things : Firstly, I pay attention to J. P. Sartre``s existentialistic concept ‘engagement’ philosophically. For this purpose I analyze “Being and nothing”, which is one of his finest philosophical writings. For the ‘engagement’ concept has been established on the basic structure of his philosophical logic in this book. Secondly, I focus on J. P. Sartre``s more practical writings, especially 2 of them, that is “Existentialism is a Humanism”, “What is Literature”, in oder to know, what meaning the ‘engagement’ concept gives us for our real currunt lives in this society. Thirdly, I examine and describe the pedagogical implications, which we could derive from J. P. Sartre``s ‘engagement’ concept.
