이 논문은 문세영이 간행한 사전의 목록을 제시하여 그 출판 흐름을 살피는 것과 문세영이 편찬한 ≪조선어사전≫의 일러두기를 중심으로 특징을 살펴 사전편찬사의 의의를 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다.문세영은 1938년 ≪조선어사전≫을 편찬한 이후 1940년 수정증보판을 발간하였다. 그 이후 ≪수정증보 조선어사전≫은 1942년, 1944년, 1946년, 1949년, 1954년에 이르기까지 거듭 간행되었다. 일본과 중국에서도 ≪수정증보 조선어사전≫이 간행되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 해방기 시기에는 ≪국어소사전≫, ≪중등조선어사전≫, ≪국어사전≫ 등을 간행되었다. 그리고 1950년대 이후에는 그의 이름으로 장문사의 ≪최신판 표준국어사전≫과 ≪순전한 우리말 사전≫이 간행되었다. 문세영 사전의 발간 흐름 추적은 국어학사에서 정확하게 밝혀지지 않은 문세영 사전의 발간 흐름을 밝히는 데 필요한 일이며 희미해지는 우리말 연구 및 사용의 흔적을 복원하는 일이기도 하다.문세영의 ≪조선어사전≫의 특징을 고찰하기 위해 일러두기를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 일러두기를 기반으로 사전의 모습을 살피는 일은 필수적이다. 다른 사전의 일러두기와 비교를 통해 ≪조선어사전≫의 특징을 구별해 낼 수 있기 때문이다. 그런 관점에서 일러두기 항목 하나하나와 사전의 기술 내용을 분석하는 일은 의의가 있다. 문세영 ≪조선어사전≫의 일러두기와 조선총독부 ≪조선어사전≫의 일러두기는 매우 비슷한 내용이 포함되어 있고 문세영 사전이 더 발전시킨 모습을 보인다. 문세영 사전 이후의 중사전 규모 이상의 사전들의 일러두기가 상세하게 나타나는데 그 저변에는 문세영 사전의 일러두기가 기반이 된 것이다.

The purpose of this article is to study the flows of publication about Korean dictionary list of Mun Seyeong. As well as this, it has an aim to illuminate the significance of the Korean dictionary history through explanatory notes of ≪Joseoneo-sajeon≫ which was a dictionary compiled by Mun Seyeong.Mun Seyeong gave the dictionary which is ≪Joseoneo-sajeon≫ to the public in 1938, he published the a revised and enlarged edition in 1940. After that, he made a revised version of ≪Sujeongjeungbo Joseoneo-sajeon≫ repeatedly in 1942, 1944, 1946, 1949, and 1954. It can be ascertained the facts that ≪Sujeong- jeungbo Joseoneo-sajeon≫ has also published in Japan and China. Right after Korea gained independence from Japan, he published Korean dictionaries which were ≪Guk-eo sosajeon≫, ≪Jungdeung-Joseoneo-sajeon≫, ≪Guk-eo sajeon≫. Since 1950s, Jangmunsa issued the ≪New Standard Korean dictionary≫ and ≪Pure Korean dictionary≫ by his name.Tracing to dictionary issue date about Mun Seyeong’s work is necessary for revealing the flow of Mun Seyeong’s dictionary which was not clearly bare the whole picture in the history of the study of the Korean language. This kind of research has contribution of restoration of an evidence about using language and studies of Korean which became faint.Apart from this, it has examined characteristics of ≪Joseoneo-sajeon≫ through explanatory notes and this method is essential to keep studying the whole figure about Korean dictionary. Because we can learn discrimination of introductory remarks about between ≪Joseoneo-sajeon≫ and other dictionary. From this point of view, it has a signification from analysis of explanatory notes and the contents It has a similar explanatory notes from Mun Seyeong’s dictionary and ≪Joseoneo- sajeon≫ which was made by the Japanese Government General of Korea. After Moon seyoung’s dictionary, medium-length dictionaries had contained the detailed explanatory notes and it had been based on Mun Seyeong’s dictionary.
