동명 , 시대일보 에 발표한 작품은 「나들이」, 「발(簾)」, 첫날밤 등에 불과했다. 여기에는 동명 , 시대일보 등의 근대문학에 대한 인식의 문제와 함께 언론사가 처했던 경제적인 문제가 놓여 있었다. 선행 논의에는 현진건이 < 시대일보사 >를 그만둔 후 동아일보 의 기자가 된 것으로 되어 있지만, 그 사이 1년 정도 < 조선일보사 >에서 일했다. < 조선일보사 >, < 동아일보사 >에서 근무할 때는 거의 작품 활동을 하지 않았는데, 그것은 기자로 근무하는 미디어에 작품을 싣는다고 해서 따로 원고료가 책정되지 않았던 점, 당시에는 기자의 월급만으로도 생활을 영위할 수 있게 되었다는 점 때문이었다. 현진건이 1933년 12월 20일부터 6개월 가까이 이어간 赤道 의 연재는 현정건의 투옥, 사망 등과 관련되어 있었다. 현진건이 ‘일장기 말소 사건’으로 알려진 사건이 계기가 되어 < 동아일보사 >를 그만둔 것은 1936년 9월 25일이었다. < 동아일보사 > 퇴사와 함께 이루어진 활발한 작품 활동은 흔히 문인-작가라고 불리는 존재들의 작품 활동과 언론사 생활의 관계를 보여준다.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate Hyun, Jin-geon(현진건)’ activity of the letters-journalist. There are various opinions about Hyun, Jin-geon’ life of studying abroad. The order of studying abroad is controversy in his life. Hyun, Jin-geon entered Jo-Seon newspaper(조선일보) around November 1921. He published serially 「Pervaya lyubor(초련)」, Rudin(부운) , 「Early morning fog(효무)」 and White hair(백발) . At that time Jo-Seon newspaper felt difficulty to fill up paper because of publishing company’s financial problems. After Hyun, Jin-geon quitted Jo-Seon newspaper , he also worked as a journalist at Dong- myeong(동명) and Si-dae newspaper(시대일보) . Hyun, Jin-geon published only three works at the moment. After he quitted Si-dae newspaper , he worked as a journalist for one year at Jo-Seon newspaper again. After that Hyun, Jin-geon entered Dong-A newspaper(동아일보) . But in those days he was rarely making artwork. Hyun, Jin-geon published serially The equator(적도) at Dong- A newspaper , and the novel was involved in Hyun, Jeong-geon``s death. Hyun, Jin-geon quitted Dong-A newspaper on 25th September 1936 beacause of Erasure of Japanese National Flag. Hyun, Jin-geon``s whereabouts shows the method of activity of the letters-journalist.
