이 논문은 문학에서의 도덕의 가치와 위상에 대한 염결한 신념을 자명한 진리가 아니라, 특정 시대를 풍미한 이데올로기로 인식해 보자는 문제의식에서 1970년대계간지 「창작과비평」(이하 「창비」), 「문학과지성」(이하 「문지」)과 박정희 대통령의 담론에서 도덕주의가 이데올로기로 작동하는 양상을 논구한다. 「창비」와 「문지」의 저자들은 공히 문학에서 도덕의 숭고한 위상과 문학의 도덕 생성 능력을 지순하게 신봉한다. 이는 전형에 대한 강박이나 작가에게 교사의 지위를 부여하는 심적 태도를 파생한다. 두 경우 모두 독자를 의식개조의 대상으로 본 점에서는 유사하다. 이러한 비평적 실천의 근저에 놓인 전제는 작가와 문학은 그 자신이 도덕적이어야 하며 독자의 도덕성을 제고해야 하고, 문학의 사명은 도덕적으로 숭고한 경지를 제시하는 것이라는 신념이다. 이 신념이 바로 도덕주의이다. 박정희 대통령의 담론에서 도덕의 세례를 거쳐야 모든 발언이 정당성과 설득력을 확보한다고 믿는 전제는 주목을 요하며, 이 전제를 탄생시킨 것이 도덕주의이다. 박정희는 국민을 개조의 대상으로 보고 지도층의 계몽적 역할을 강조했다. 세 담론에서 유사한 논리구조와 ‘건전’에의 강박이 발견된다. 특히 건전에의 강박은 당대의 도덕이 창백한 밝음을 지향하면서 유순한 주체의 양성을 노렸음을 보여준다. 1970년대 도덕주의는 정권과 비판적 지식인들에게서 공히 담론 생산의 추동력으로 작동했다. 도덕주의는 일방적 비난에 몰두하는 주체를 파생하고 윤리적 무책임과 배타적 보수성을 야기할 수 있다. 문학적 현실에서 도덕주의는 우리 문학의 깊이있는 발전을 저해하고 문학교육의 경직성을 초래한 면이 있다.

The critics of Creation and Criticism and Literature and Intelligence regard moralism as the most important value in the literature. They share the following faith; Writer and literature should be moral itself, and should improve the morality of the readers. Literature should propose sublime moral standard. This faith is precisely moralism. The premise of president Park, Chung-Hee``s discourses is the solid value of the moralism. In this regard discourses of Creation and Criticism, Literature and Intelligence and the discourses of President Park, Chung-Hee have the same structure as a result. They see the public as the object of modification and education. It also shows the three discourses have the same foundation. Thus moralism in the 1970s worked as ideology. Moralism is associated with the criticizing subject, ethical irresponsibility, exclusive conservatism and modern identity. Also moralism has hindered the development of our literature and gave rise to rigidity of literary education.
