본 연구에서는 다가올 통일시대에 대비한 다양한 협력과제 중에서 주로 남북교류와 경제관계 활성화를 위한 정책과제의 도출에 초점을 맞추었다. 특히, 북한경제의 실태와 남북한 경제의 차이를 짚어보고, 남북 격차에 따르는 통일비용의 축소방안을 철도인프라의 구축차원에서 모색하였다. 뿐만 아니라 본 연구에서는 TKR이 유라시아철도망과 한일터널로 연결될 경우, 통일시대에 소요되는 엄청난 규모의 통일비용을 절감하는 효과와 함께 동북아의 안정과 공동체 논의에 박차를 가하는 등 다양한 시너지 효과가 창출될 것으로 주장하였다. 특히, 한반도와 주변정세의 안정은 남북통일을 위한 분위기 조성에 기여함은 물론 동북아 정세의 안정과 유라시아 경제통합체제의 구축과 관련된 논의 등에 있어서 기폭제가 될 것으로 사료된다. 그러나 최근에 북한의 잇단 군사적 도발에 의한 남ㆍ북간 경제협력의 전면적인 중단조치는 본 연구와 같은 건설적이고 미래지향적인 통일논의에 있어서 큰걸림돌이 되고 있음을 지적하였다.

South and North Korea have in today’s economic disparity is deepening. In today’s problems it is deepening the economic gap between North and South. Today there is a big difference between North and South Korea economic power. Comparison of statistical significance may reach the level of lost meaning. With the difference between the stages of development, the gap has existed the problem of excessive extent in today’s South and North Korea. This study argues that the need to improve the development phase, scale and qualitative factors such as the North Korean economy. In other words, it emphasized the strategic plan to minimize the “cost unity” of enormous size should be sought actively. In preparation for the advent of a sudden be united in this effort to minimize the frictional element that occurs in the North-South differences in the structure of society and the system is required. In particular, this study is the TKR Eurasian rail connections in the future, also emphasizes that it should be connected to South Korea and Japan undersea tunnel. This situation contributes to realizing the reunification of the Korean Peninsula as soon as possible. Furthermore, it is expected to greatly contribute to the establishment of a stable system of economic integration in Northeast Asia and Eurasia affairs.
