The goal of this research was to examine the similarities and differences in the kinship address terms of South and North Korea. As kinship address terms differ greatly across regions and generations, only the normative terms were examined. A comparison was made based on books about the standard speech of each Korea: ``Pyojun-eoneo-yejeol``(the book about standard South Korean speech) and three books of North Korea. The findings were verified and supplemented by examining how the terms were used in novels, movies, and dramas. The analysis showed that there were not many significant differences in kinship address terms of the two Koreas. The results of analysis described only the major differences. It is essential to know the speech manners of one`s speech community(including standard address terms) for effective communication. Differences in the speech manners of the two Koreas can lead to communication problems. More research is needed to resolve such problems.
