이 글은 경학연구에 있어서 집석적 이해 가능성을 모색하고 있다. 경전에 대한 해석은 오랜 시간동안 축적되어 왔다. 해석의 축적과정을 통해 확보된 다양한 해석의 지층을 공시적으로 배열한 뒤, 지금-이곳에서 가장 의미 있는 해석을 찾아내는 것을 고전집석학이라고 부른다. 이 글은 『예기ㆍ악기』를 예로 하여 집석적 이해 가능성을 점검하고, 이를 통해 경학연구에 있어서 집석적 방법론을 제언하고자 한다. 『禮記ㆍ樂記』는 그동안 하나의 경학 텍스트로 다뤄지지 않았다.『악기』는 두 가지의 경학적 과제를 갖고 있었다. 첫째, 인간의 마음과 외물(外物)은 어떻게 감응하는가? 둘째, 악과 정치는 어떤 관계인가? 이들은 『악기』가 경학 텍스트로 형성될 당시의 정치적과제를 해명하기 위해 던져진 질문이었다. 『악기』는 그 질문에 대답을 하면서, 유가 이데올로기가 인간의 마음을 어떻게 다스려나갈 것인가에 대하여 준비되었다. 『악기』에 대한 해석은 오랜 동안 축적되었다. 이들은 각 시대마다 요구된 해석적 질문에 대한 대답이었다. 그럼 21세기를 지나는 지금, 우리의 경학적 과제는 무엇일까? 『악기』는 어떻게 대답할 것인가? 이 글은 『악기』에 대한 새로운 해석을 제시하진 않는다. 그럼에도 우리는 『악기』가지향하는 인간의 욕망과 감정에 대한 긍정, 합리화되지 않은 마음의 인정은 주목할 만한 가치가 있음을 지적해두고자 한다. 우리는 이에 대한 정연한 대답을 마련하기 위해『악기』에 대한 통시적 해석들을 공시적으로 재배열하고 이들 사이를 균형 있게 바라볼필요가 있다. 시간의 공간화를 통해서 해석의 평등성을 확보하는 순간, 경학 연구 주체의 시각은 균형 잡히기 시작할 것이다. 그즈음 집석적 이해는 하나의 방법에 그치지않고, 하나의 ‘학’으로의 위상을 확보하고 있으리라 기대된다.
The purpose of this study is to search for the possibility of a classicscritical annotation study on the Confucian Classics. The interpretation of Confucianism scriptures has accumulated for a long time. Each interpretation piled up and formed a layer. Then, arrange the layer synchronously and find the most suitable interpretation for here and now. This called ‘a Classics-critical annotation study’. This study is to check the possibility of critical annotation understanding through Liji(禮記)ㆍYueji(樂記). Through the process, this study tries to suggest Classics-critical annotation. Liji has three themes. First, How to communicate between inside- mind and outside-world? Second, What relationship between vice and politics? Third, Is the vice truthful? Through these themes, Liji gives rely to question-‘How will Confucian ideology control human mind? If so, What should Liji do in 21st century? This study does not aim for answering this question. This is only one example. We need to look interpretations of Liji in a balance way. We have to ensure equality of interpretation through spatialized time. Then, classicscritical annotation study will become ‘a real study’.
