역사적 인간관계나 상호교류 가운데 언어와 문화는 전달되고 변화하여 존재 해 왔다. 이러한 면에서 한국의 가장 큰 섬인 제주도와 몽골과의 역사적 사실로 인한 언어의 잔재를 연구하는 것은 양국 간의 언어학적인 면에서 연구할만한 가 치가 충분하다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 논자는 제주 지명에 관한 여러 논리들을 고찰 하였다. 제주지명은 지역의 특징적인 고유 의미가 담긴 어휘들이 많으며, 언어의 유입 또한 외세의 침략과 교류로 인해 지역화되고 정착되었다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 오름명(가시, 더데, 바리, 아진, 알)과 제주내 지명(멜케, 모록밭, 무수내, 버렝 이, 웃드르)등의 어휘를 중세몽골어와 관련하여 형태, 음운, 의미적으로 고찰하여 제주만의 고유 지명임을 밝히고자 하였다. 개연성 연구는 언어를 보는 관점에 있어서 한자음표기에 따른 의미이해와 어원의 변형, 지역과 지형의 특징 등을 고려 해야 할 것이다. 이러한 고찰은 제주어와 중세몽골어와의 여러 상관관계에 있어 좀 더 분명히 하고자 하는 학술적 연구라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 언어학적 개연성 연구는 양국 언어학자들간의 지속적인 교류와 연구를 통해 풀어야 할 과제가 되 는 것이다.
Language and culture have existed by changing and transforming upon the historical relationships and mutual interchange among the people. Due to this reason, to study on the vestige of language is quite worthy in terms of linguistic perspective to figure out the significance of linguistic remnants caused by historical relationship between Mongolian and Jeju Island, the largest island in Korea. In the present, I have contemplated various logics regarding the name of places in Jeju-do. In general, many places in Jeju have a lot of vocabulary that represents characteristic and unique meaning of the region, and the inflow of language has been well localized and settled due to the invasion of foreign power and interchange. Therefore, the names of Oreum (Volcanic cone in Jeju: Gasi, Deode, Bari, Ajin, Al) and the other places (Melke, Morok-bat, Musunae, Beoraeng-i, Wootdeur) in Jeju were studied in terms of its formation, phoneme, and meanings, in perspective of its relationship with Mongolian language in the Middle Age and, I tried to find out that the name of places in Jeju are truly unique. A study on the relationship and probability shall be considered the meanings of the Chinese words, transformation of the original words, and the geographical and regional characteristics. Therefore, this consideration shall be considered as the academic research to make clear between Jeju language and Middle Age Mongolian language in different correlations. Thus, a study on the linguistics probability is a major task to solve through consistent interchange and research between the linguists of both countries.
