This study has its objectives in investigating the significance of a composition of academic text’s title has in the education of the Korean language through the examination of obstacles present in real-life examples. A “title” is the most condensed form of sub-text, which conveys the central theme of the overall writing in a concise, accurate and logical manner. It requires the capability of a writer to compose one in adherence to the respective academic community’s conventions and regulations. But in actual examples of international students’ academic text, numerous problems become disclosed in the analysis composition aspect of the title, and this paper focuses its discussion largely on the ‘issues concerning sentence closure form, improper expression usage, inappropriate selection of the quantity of information as well as keywords used in the title, and inaccurate use of punctuation marks.’ This study is significant not only in the fact that it reaffirms both the importance and the unique functions that a title performs in an academic text, but also in the aspect that it makes an attempt at pinpointing the regulative principles to be observed in the writing of an academic text and in the education of title composition methods.
