“Houfu厚父” is a chapter in Tsinghua bamboo slip manuscripts of Shang shu尙書 style. Its graphs present various characteristics, which this thesis categorizes into four types. Through analyzing particular characters and tracing sources of the writing forms, this article explores questions about the circulating region of “Houfu”, the forming time of this text, and the identity of its transcribers. Since excavated manuscripts provide original appearance of texts which had been erased in passed-down documents, not only are they precious materials for the research on characters, but they also reveal information about the textual nature. This thesis endeavors to establish a new pattern for identifying the origin of pre-Qin documents through investigating their writing forms and summarizing characteristics.
