이 연구는 자폐범주성 장애유아의 자기결정경험을 살펴보고자 한 질적연구이다. 연구 방법은 2명의 연구 참여 아동이 소속된 2개 통합반의 자유놀이 시간을 활용하여 주 3회, 21회기 40분씩 참여 관찰하였으며 비디오로 녹화 및 관찰노트 작성을 하였다. 비디오 녹화자료는 일화기록으로 수집한 후, 작성된 관찰노트, 교사 면담 자료 등과 함께 취합하여 자폐범주성 장애유아가 나타내는 활동들 중 자기결정 경험에 속하는 것으로 의미 있는 내용들을 분류하는 범주화과정을 거쳤다. 범주화 된 내용에 따라 사례를 도출하고 해석하였다. 연구결과, 자폐범주성 장애유아들은 자기결정 경험의 유형 중 선택하기와 선호표현하기를 보였다. 이들은 자신들의 제스쳐나 표정을 이용해 자신들이 좋아하는 활동의 선택과 활동시간의 선택하기가 가능하였다. 또한, 선호 표현하기에서는 언어나 제스처를 사용하여 표현하였다. 본 연구를 통해 자폐범주성 장애유아들의 자기결정 경험 유형을 살펴 볼 수 있었으며, 교사들이 자폐유아들의 선택하기와 선호활동을 다양한 방식으로 표현할 수 있도록 섬세한 지도가 필요함을여겼다. 또한 자폐범주성 장애유아의 그 외의 자기결정 경험을 위해 다양한 환경 제공과 또래교사의 활용과 같은 교수전략이 요구된다.

This is qualitative research to investigate on self-determination experience of children with autism spectrum disorders(ASD). Participant observation was performed through video recordings and taking observational notes during free activities, each of the 21 observation sessions was conducted for 40 minutes at two inclusion classes to which the research-participating children belonged. Video recording data was collected as anecdotal records along with complete observational notes and data from interviews with teachers, and then these were categorized to classify the meaningful contents of those activities among them that could be defined as the self-determination experiences of children with autism spectrum disorder. Moreover, based on these categorized contents, cases were derived and analyzed. In total, children did not show cases of self-determination experience other than choice making and preference. Children went through experiences related to their favorite foods, activities, and goods and expressed their preference using language or gestures. This study found that teachers should provide detailed instruction to encourage children with ASD to make their own choices and express preference in various ways. Furthermore, various environments should be provided as well as teaching strategies, such as utilization of peer tutoring, to create other cases of self-determination experiences for children with ASD.
