본 연구의 목적은 한국의 청각장애인이 일상생활에서 경험하는 사회적응을 심층적으로 밝히고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 청각장애인 당사자 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였고, 심층 인터뷰를 통하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 현상학적 연구 방법인 현상학적 자기평가 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 상위카테고리 1개, 하위카테고리 5개, 개념 13개가 도출되었다. 상위카테고리는 <자신의 의지와는 상관없이 적응방식을 찾아야 함>으로 도출되었으며, 하위카테고리는 “듣기위해 부단히 노력해야 함”, “자신의 언어를 찾는 과정을 경험함”, “자신의 정체성에 대해 고민함”, “겉으로 보여지는 모습에 대한 대응전략을 사용함”, “사회환경에 대하여 상이한 대응을 나타냄”으로 5개가 도출되었다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 청각장애인의 사회적응에 관해 사회문화적 측면과 전문가적 측면에서의 대책을 제언하였으며, 본 연구 결과가 청각장애인과 관련된 분야의 정책 및 실천을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

The purpose of this research is to disclose, in depth, the social adaptations experienced by deaf persons in Korea in their everyday life. For this, 5 deaf persons were selected as the participants in the research. And, through the in-depth interviews, the materials and the data were collected. The collected materials and data were analyzed by using the phenomenological self-evaluation method, which is a phenomenological research method. As a result of the analyses, 1 upper category, 5 lower categories, and 13 concepts were drawn. Regarding the upper category, ‘the adaptation method without any relation to one’s will must be found’ was drawn. And, regarding the lower categories, the following 5 were drawn: 1. ‘One must ceaselessly endeavor in order to hear’; 2. ‘The experience of the process in which one’s language is looked for’; 3. ‘Worrying about one’s identity’; 4. ‘The use of a response strategy regarding the appearance shown outside’; and, 5. ‘The responses that are different regarding the social environment are shown’. Based on the results of this research, in relation to the social adaptations of the deaf persons, the countermeasures with regard to the sociocultural aspects and the professional aspects were proposed. And, I have the high expectation that the results of this research will be utilized as the basic materials and data for the policies and practices in the fields related to the deaf persons.
