본 연구는 진로교육이 최근에 국가적으로 강조되고 있는 시점에서 지적 및 발달장애학생의 적절한 진로교육을 모색하기 위하여, 진로교육과 관련된 국가교육정책을 고찰하고 지적 및 발달장애학생의 진로교육 개선방향을 탐색하여 제시하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 본 연구의 내용은 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있는데, 첫째는 지적 및 발달장애학생의 진로교육에 영향을 미칠 수있는 진로교육과 관련된 국가 교육정책과 국가수준의 교육과정을 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 최근에 제시된 진로교육법, 제2차 진로교육 5개년 기본계획, 자유학기제 시행 계획, 제4차 특수교육발전 5개년 계획을 고찰하였으며, 진로교육 관점에서 국가 수준의 교육과정도 살펴보았다. 둘째 부분은 지적 및 발달장애학생의 진로교육과 관련하여 진로와 직업 및 전환교육의 관계 정립, 진로발달단계에 따른 진로교육, 국가교육정책에 따른 진로교육의 관점에서 지적 및 발달장애학생을 위한 진로교육의 방향을 모색하여 제시하였다. 이러한 본 연구의 결과는 앞으로 지적 및 발달장애학생의 장애특성과 교육적 요구에 맞는 진로교육 체계와 내용 및 방법을 개발하는데 기초자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to explore national education laws and plans and career education improvement directions for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There is a growing emphasis that career education is an effective way to increase education outcomes and quality of lives for students with and without disabilities. The study consisted of two parts. The results were as follows. First, this study reviewed national education laws and plans, which were a career education law, the second career education 5-year plan, the fourth 5-year special education development plan, national curriculum for students 5with and without disabilities. Second, career education improvement directions were suggested based on important issues of career education, which were the relationships among career education, vocational education, transition education, career development stages etc. The implications of the findings and recommendations for practice and future research on career education for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities were presented.
