본 연구는 자폐범주성장애 유아들이 시각, 청각, 촉각에서 다양한 자극을 제공하는 로봇 장난감과의 상호작용에서 어떤 반응을 보이는지를 연구한 것이다. 본 연구의 연구 대상은 A장애전담 어린이집에 있는 남자 자폐범주성장애 유아 3명이며, 연구 방법은 질적 연구 방법을 사용하였다. 연구 결과 로봇 장난감에서 주어지는 자극에 상당히 적극적으로 반응하였으며, 이들이 보인 행동 유형들을 탐색형과 표현형으로 나눌 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과가 시사하는 바는 주어지는 자극의 특성이나 교육 자료의 특성에 따라 자폐범주성장애 유아들도 적극적인 다양한 형태의 반응을 나타낼 수 있다는 것이다.

This study explores the responses of children labeled with autism to five kinds of stimuli--including visual, auditory and tactile stimuli--involved in their playing with electronic toys. The participants were three male children labeled with autism in a preschool for children with disabilities. The method was qualitative; over 16 sessions, three people recorded their observations of children labeled with autism responding to the stimuli. The observation notes were analyzed and organized into themes. The results of this study indicate that children labeled with autism behave as positive participants, explorers, requesters and expressers (that is, they expressed themselves very well on which stimuli they liked and wanted) This indicates that children labeled with autism can be active learners in activities when given appropriate stimuli or materials.
