This study aimed to analyze the practical knowledge experiences of preservice special education teachers gathered through teaching demonstrations and reflective journal writing, as well as examine the meaning of such practical knowledge. To achieve these aims, this study employed action research methodology from the theoretical framework of interpretivism under the epistemology of constructivism according to Crotty(1998) classification method. The subjects were 23 pre-service special education teachers in their third year at the Department of Secondary Special Education of A University. They demonstrated classes and wrote reflective journals in “Method to Study Secondary Special Education Textbooks and Teaching Skills”, one of the regular courses provided by teacher education universities. Through this process, this study intended to examine the practical knowledge experiences of pre-service special education teachers. Towards this end, the study collected microteaching scripts, as well as data from reflective journal writings, interviews, and teaching guidelines. Inductive analysis was performed using the Nvivo 9 program, and pre-service special education teachers were found to have made experiences in the categories of “composition of practical knowledge for class planning”, “composition of practical knowledge for class progression”, and “composition of practical knowledge about the teachers themselves”. Based on these results, this study proposes measures to enhance class expertise based on practical knowledge about pre-service special education teachers.
