본 연구에서는 현재 우리나라 유아특수교육기관에서 이루어지는 진전 점검에 대한 학부모들의 인식과 요구를 알아보고자 하였다. 구체적인 연구 목적은 첫째, 유아특수교육기관이 진전 점검 자료를 부모에게 제공한 실태를 알아본다, 둘째, 유아특수교육기관의 진전 점검에 부모가 참여하는 것에 대한 부모의 인식을 알아본다, 셋째, 유아특수교육기관의 부모 참여 진전 점검 방법에 대한 부모들의 요구를 알아보는 것이었다. 연구 목적을 위해 비율층화표집방법을 사용하였으며, 최종적으로 전국의 국ㆍ공ㆍ사립 유아특수교 육기관에 재학 중인 장애 유아 부모 115명이 응답한 설문조사 결과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 본 연구의 대상이 되었던 부모들 중 대부분의 부모들이 자녀가 다니는 유아특수교육기관으로부터 진전 점검 자료를 정기적으로 제공받고 있었으나, 비정기적으로 평가 자료를 제공 받고 있거나, 전혀 제공받지 못하는 부모들이 있었으며, 정기적으로 자료를 제공받는다 하더라도 1년에 1-2회 정도로 드물게 받는 경우가있었다. 아울러 현재 우리나라 유아특수교육기관에서의 진전 점검 자료의 유형은 매우 다양한 것으로 나타났다. 부모들은 장애유아의 진전 점검을 매우 필요한 것으로 인식하였고, 부모가 참여하는 것에 대한 필요성도 매우 높게 나타냈다. 또한 현재 유아특수교육기관의 진전 점검 실태에 대해 다양한 문제점들을 지적하였다. 부모 참여 진전 점검에 대한 요구 조사에서, 대부분의 부모들은 월 1회 이상으로 자녀의 진전 점검 자료를 제공받기를 원하였고, 진전 점검 영역 중에서도 사회생활영역에 대한 자료를 가장 현저하게 우선적으로 제공받기를 원하였다. 또한 개별 부모 교사협의회를 통해 진전 점검 자료를 제공해 줄 것을 대부분 원하였다. 부모들은 다양한 평가 방법으로 자녀의 진전도를 직접 점검하는 것에 대한 높은 요구와 적절성을 제시하였으며, 자녀에 대한 모든 진전 점검 관련 자료는 복사하여 가정과 기관과 같이 보관하고자 하는 부모가 많았다. 본 연구에서는 연구 결과에 근거하여 유아 특수교육기관의 진전 점검 모형 개발과 관련한 몇 가지 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual state of monitoring children``s progress and parents`` perception and needs for monitoring children``s progress in early childhood special education programs. The subjects in this study were 115 parents of young children with disabilities. The instrument used in this study was the‘Parent Perception and Need Questionnaire`` developed for this study. The collected data were analyzed, using SPSS/PC+ program. The results of this study are as followed. First, most parents(76.5%) have been regularly offered monitoring children``s progress data of their children, But some parents(22.6%) have not been provided or have been irregularly provided the data. Second, many parents recognize that monitoring children``s progress is necessary for the IEP and the intervention plan for children``s behavioral problems. Also the problems in monitoring children``s progress is suggested by some parent : a) the kind of methods used in monitoring children``s progress was very limited, b) some teachers hardly offered or didn``t offer the data of monitoring children``s progress to parents. c) the result of monitoring children``s progress was too simple, d) they had difficulty to understand the data or didn``t know how to use the data for their children``s education. Third, the needs of parents for monitoring children``s progress is as below. a) most parents want to get a data more than once per month. b) most parents take social living domain precedence over the others, but they recognize that the data of all domains are usefulness c) most parent prefer parent-teacher consultation as the method for getting the data. d) most parent prefer participation in monitoring their children``s progress, e) most parent respond that they can perform progress monitoring with a variety of types of method. The findings of this study should be considered in planning progress monitoring for the young children with disabilities by directors and teachers of early childhood special education program.
