본 연구는 정신지체인의 성과 관련된 인식을 조사하고자 하였으며, 연구의 대상은 특수학교ㆍ복지관ㆍ그룹홈 등의 교사 164명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 설문지는 김한경ㆍ박용숙(2003)의 연구 자료와 이현혜(2003)의 논문에서 사용된 설문지 중 본 조사에 적합한 내용을 수정ㆍ보완하여 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 이성교제에 찬성 하는 교사가 54.9%로 나타났으나, 이성교제 시 허용할 수 있는 정도는 손을 잡는 정도(41.3%)가 가장 높은 응답률을 나타냈으며, 결혼 전 성교에 대한 인식에 있어서는‘경우에 따라 수용할 수 있다’가37.8%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 결혼 전 피임에 대해서는‘수용할 수 있다’가 50.0%, 피임교육에 있어서도 긍정적인 태도를 가진 교사가 50.6%로 나타났다. 결혼에 대해서는 찬성이 46.2%로 나타났으며, 불임수술에 대한 생각으로는‘필요한 경우도 있다’가 67.7%로 나타났다. 결혼 후 불임수술에 대해서는‘반반이다’가 47.0%로, 임신 및 출산에 대한 인식에 있어서는 찬성이 39.4%로 나타났다. 성문제 대처방법에 있어서는‘전문가의 정기적인 성교육 실시’(55.5%)가 가장 필요하다고 응답했으며, 정신지체인의 성적권리에 대해서는‘정신지체인 자신의 개인적인 사생활을 가질 권리’,‘성적으로 이용당하지 않을 권리’순으로 권리보장이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 둘째, 정신지체인을 위한 서비스 프로그램에 대한 인식으로는, 97.0%의 교사가 서비스 프로그램이 필요하다고 응답하였으며, 서비스 프로그램의 내용으로는 정신지체인의 성에 대한 이해를 얻기 위한 프로그램(37.2%), 성교육의 구체적인 방법(22.0%) 순으로 나타났다. 성교육 내용으로는 사춘기, 성폭력, 임신, 예절교육이 시급히 실시되어야 하며, 성교육 실시 및 성교육 실시 기관의 확충이 가장 필요하다고 응답하였다.

The purpose of this study is to examine related to the perception of sexuality of the mentally retarded based on surveys conducted on 164 teachers of special schools, welfare centers, group homes etc. The survey used in this research was based on selective and amended contents of research materials of 김한경ㆍ박용숙(2003) and a paper by 이현혜(2003). The results of this research are first, 54.9% of the teachers were in favour of dating but only allowing holding hands had the highest rating(41.3%). Allowing sexual intercourse before marriage depending on the situation gave the highest result of 37.8%. 50% responded that contraception use before marriage was acceptable and they also showed a positive attitude towards sex education. Regarding marriage, 46.2% agreed and 67.7% considered sterilization operation necessary at times. For sterilization after marriage the result was 47% for fifty/fifty and for pregnancies and birth 39.4% were in favour. For handling sex problems 55.5% thought that periodic education from experts was necessary and for mentally retarded sex rights the response in the order of was, the mentally retarded have the right to a private life, the right to not to be abused. Secondly, 97% of the teachers responded that service programs were required in relation to the perception of service programs for the mentally retarded. They also responded in the order of programs for understanding sex of the mentally retarded(37.2%) and specific methods for sex education(22%) regarding contents of the service programs. Contents desperately required for sex education given in the replies were puberty, sexual violence, pregnancies, etiquettes and they also replied that sex education and increase in institutions for sex education was required.
