자녀의 직업재활과 관련한 부모들의 욕구는 직업재활 서비스 및 자녀의 직업재활 능력에 대하여 부모가 올바른 이해와 인식을 갖고 있어야 보다 더 정확한 욕구가 표출될 수가 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 경북지역의 장애인복지관에서 직업재활 서비스를 이용하고 있는 정신 지체인의 부모들을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 정신지체인의 직업재활과 관련한 부모의 인식수준과 욕구를 파악하고, 그러한 인식들이 욕구와 어떤 관련성을 지니고 있으며, 인식수준의 정도에 따라 욕구가 차이가 있거나 변화하는지를 살펴봄으로써, 장애인복지관에서의 직업재활 서비스는 어떻게 변화 또는 대처할 것인가를 알아보고자 하였다. 덧붙여, 복지관에서 이루어지고 있는 직업재활과정 및 서비스에 대한 부모들의 이해 및 인지의 수준과 자녀의 직업적 능력에 대한 인식 정도에 따라 정신지체인의 직업재활에 관한 부모들의 욕구가 다를 것이라는 가정을 하고 연구를 진행하였다. 그리하여 현 상태에서의 인식의 정도와 욕구는 살펴보았으나, 욕구가 인식의 정도에 따라 차이가 있거나 변화한다는 것을 명쾌히 밝히지는 못하였다. 따라서 이러한 점에 관한 좀 더 심층적인 후속연구가 필요할 것이라 생각된다.

Parents`` needs concerned with vocational rehabilitation of their child may be manifested more accurately when they have better understanding and awareness of vocational rehabilitation services and child``s ability of vocational rehabilitation. The purpose of this research was to investigate the parents`` awareness level of vocational rehabilitation for the persons with mental retardation and their pertinent needs. The participants of this study were parents having child with mental retardation using or residing in rehabilitation center for the disabled in Gyeongbuk region. Also it was intended to examine the relations between awareness and needs, and difference of needs according to level of awareness, and to find out how vocational rehabilitation services rendered by the rehabilitation center have been changed or how to cope with such difficult situations. Additionally, these research works were performed forming a hypothesis that parents`` needs concerned with vocational rehabilitation for people with metal retardation accordant with degree of awareness of child``s vocational ability and level of understanding and recognition possessed by parents with regard to vocational rehabilitation process implemented by the rehabilitation center and services thereof would be different. So then, degree of awareness of status quo and needs were carefully examined, however, in this study, I was not able to identify clearly that needs would be changed or make certain differences occur according to the degree of awareness. With this regard, further study may benefit from works in depth concerned about this subject.
