본 연구는 지역공동체에 대한 높은 관심이라는 정책적 현실과 상대적으로 시간 개념을 도입한 경험적 연구의 부족이라는 선행연구에 대한 문제의식에서 출발한다. 따라서 시간이 지남에 따라 지역공동체와 관련 행위자간 갈등과 협력의 이면에 존재하는 역할 관계의 변화 정도를 분석하는 데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 구체적 연구를 위하여 지역공동체의 진화 단계를 태동기, 형성기, 발전기 그리고 정착기로 분류하였다. 또한 사례지역은 민간주도형(맘프 축제), 민관협력형(전주 선미촌 도시재생 프로젝트) 및 관주도형(대전 서구 행복드림 릴레이)을 각 1개씩 선정하여, 현장 토론회 및 개별 인터뷰의 방법으로 자료를 수집ㆍ분석하였다. 지역공동체 이해관계자간 역할 관계는 초기에 형성된 경로에 의존적인모습을 보였다. 또한 초기에 형성된 행위자 간 협력활동도 시간이 지남에 따라 보다 안정화되었다. 그러나 이러한 초기 경로에 의존적인 모습은 정부의 지원 축소나 참여단체의 확대 등을 제약하는 원인이 되었다.

This thesis starts with the needs of empirical research concerning evolutionary perspective about local communities. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze changing roles among stakeholder with the evolution of local communities, which might be identified through conflict and cooperation amongst them. It divided the evolution process of local communities into four stages such as embryonic stage, formative stage, development stage and embedment stage, and it methodologically used the case study including three local communities. Analysis of the empirical study reveals significant findings: firstly, the relationships among stakeholders of local communities depended on early path, for instance, the initiative group in the embryonic stage lasted to embedment stage. Secondly, the cooperative relations among the communities became gradually stable over time, but the increasing stability also became the cause of path dependency on the activities and the relationships among stakeholders in local communities.
