The purpose of this study was to examine social relationships and friendships of children with disabilities and to find out problems. The method of this study was literature research. Therefore, Korean literature and foreign literature (articles, journals, books, etc.) about social relationships and friendships of children with disabilities were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, children with disabilities are not often given the opportunity to interact with other typically developing children. Second, children with disabilities may need some assistance in acquiring friends. Unfortunately, when assistance is given, an emphasis is placed on teaching the child a set of social skills. Third, an emphasis is placed on changing the children with disabilities or attempting to make him or her "normal". Fourth, it is often believed that children with disabilities are not capable of developing meaningful relationships with others. This study also addresses some suggestions for further research on social relationships and friendships of children with disabilities.
