The purpose of this study was to examine the development of hearing-impaired children`s emotional understanding on the basis of the desire and given situations. The subjects were 45 hearing- impaired children whose age ranged from 4 to 12, with a mean age of 8.65. After picture materials were presented to them, they were asked to identify whether the people in picture materials feel happy or sad on the basis of their desire, and to predict whether the people were happy, sad, afraid or angry in consideration of the given situation. As a result, the deaf children`s performance turned out to be much more worse than earlier studies found. Based on the finding of this study, it`s attempted to discuss what factor served as a medium between hearing loss and difficulties in emotional understanding.
