이 연구는 정신지체특수학교 교사들의 동료장학의 운영실태와 요구를 밝히는 조사연구이다. 연구대상은 210명으로 성별, 직위별, 경력별, 연령별로 분석하였으며, 설문지구성은 동료장학에 대한 교사들의 인식, 동료장학의 실태, 동료장학의 문제점 및 개선방향3개 영역 24개 문항으로, 약 3개월에 걸쳐 조사되었다. 연구 결론은 첫째, 정신지체특수학교 교사들은 동료장학에 대해서 잘 이해하고 있고 학교현장에서 꼭 필요한 것으로 인식하고 있다. 둘째, 현재 가장 많이 실시하는 동료장학의 형태는 연구수업 중심이고, 가장 적절한 형태의 동료장학으로는 동료 간의 협동적 수업연구이다. 셋째, 동료장학이 필요하고 수업개선에 도움이 되는데도 현장에서 활성화되고 있지 못하고 있는데 이를 활성화시키기 위한 방안으로 학교의 관료적인 구조로 인한 어려움을 줄이기 위해 자율적인 활동이 가능한 교과별, 과정별, 동 학년별, 동호회별 모임, 티타임을 통한 수업개선에 대한 자유로운 의견교환이 활발하게 이루어져야겠다. 그리고 과중한 업무의 경감과 행재정적 지원이 이루어져야 하겠고, 무엇보다도 교사들의 동료장학에 대한 수용태도와 수업개선을 통해 학생들의 학습능력을 향상시키고자 하는 꾸준한 자기발전을 위한 노력이 필요할 것이다.

The Purpose of this study was to find out the needs analysis for colleague supervision of teachers for the mentally retarded in special schools by analyzing its realities. For this purpose, this study used the questionnaire research method as the measurement instrument and made use of SPSS 10.0 program for statistical data processing As a result, the following conclusion was drawn; First, respondents had a high understanding of colleague supervision of teachers for the mentally retarded in special schools and thought that it was desirable because of its informality and contribution to the learning-teaching method. Second, colleague supervision conducted among special schools for the mentally retarded tended to be formally conducted with an emphasis on school research under the plan of the head of the research department. Third, responding teachers thought that colleague supervision should be conducted around the same school year in terms of the method of conducting colleague supervision. Fourth, the problems of colleague supervision included the lack of research time due to teachers`` excessive miscellaneous affairs, the lack of senior teachers to give counselling and advice and the like.
