통합교육의 효율성은 장애아동을 지도하는 교사, 학부모, 그리고 장애아동을 포함한 일반아동의 태도에 기초한다는 선행연구가 보고되고 있다. 본 연구는 초등학교 아동의 장애관련 용어에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위하여 수행되었다. 초등학생 4, 5, 6학년 350명을 대상으로 ‘장애자’라는 어휘에 대한 마인드맵 분석을 통하여 일차적으로 일반용어 20개, 장애관련 용어 20개, 장애관련 속어 20개를 선정하였다. 전문가와의 협의를 통하여 유목별로 각각 10개의 어휘를 선정하여 최종적으로 30개 어휘에 대한 태도를 분석하였다. t 검증과 다변량 분석을 통하여 초등학생의 장애관련 어휘에 대한 태도를 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 초등학생의 장애관련 어휘와 장애관련 속어에 대한 이해력은 일반 용어에 비해 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 장애관련 어휘보다는 장애관련 속어에 대한 이해력이 상대적으로 낮았다. 학년이 올라갈수록 세 영역의 어휘에 대한 이해력은 점차 향상되지만, 일반용어와 비교하여 장애관련 용어와 속어에 대한 현저한 이해력의 차이는 나타나지 않는다. 그러나 여학생은 남학생에 비해 장애관련 용어에 대한 이해력의 현저한 차이가 나타나지만, 장애관련 속어에 대한 이해력의 차이는 성별에 따라 달리 나타나지 않는다. 따라서 장애관련 속어에 대한 초등학생의 이해력에 대한 학년과 성별에 따른 용어에 대한 이해력의 고착화는 용어의 특성으로 사료된다. 또한 동일한 의미의 용어와 속어 등에 있어서 초등학생은 일관되게 인식하는 것이 아니라, 용어의 성격에 따라서 인식 또한 달라질 수 있음을 본 연구에서는 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to grasp the recognition and the values of the elementary school students about the disability and to propose the direction for the cultivation of positive perception. Questionnaire was carried out for 500 elementary school students, which was verified by multi-variables analysis and SPSS statics program was used. As a result of this research, we could see that the understanding for terminology and colloquial language related to disability became lower due to the social deficiency of education and experience related to disability, and that elementary school students had the negative recognition for the disability because the social negative prejudice against the disability adhered to elementary school students, and this adherence was more noticeable for the colloquial language related to disability. In order to cultivate the elementary school student``s recognition for disability positively, we should make them have experiences for disability by various methods directly or indirectly.
