본 연구에서는 독해전략훈련이 정신지체 고등학생의 표현력 향상에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 고등학교 특수학급에 재학하여 통합교육을 받고 있는 3명의 학생을 피험자로 선정하였다. 이들은 특수교육기관에서 정신지체 2급의 판정을 받은 학생들로 지능지수(IQ)는 45～51이고 사회성숙도 지수(SQ)가 49～59로 초등학교 저학년 수준의 학력과 사회상식을 가지고 있고 원조를 받으면 독립된 생활이 가능한 학생이다. 실험 설계는 대상자간 중다간헐기초선 설계를 이용하였고, 12주간 총 25회를 실시하였으며, 중재기간의 평가는 매 중재 5회기 후 평가를 실시하여 총 5회 실시하였다. 피험자의 표현력의 향상정도를 측정하기 위해 상, 중, 하의 평가문에 대한 총 득점 수를 측정하여 이를 백분율로 나타내고 도표와 그래프로 제시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독해 전략 훈련이 표현력 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있었다. 세 학생 모두 표현력 정답비율이 기초선 기간에 비해 중재기간동안 평균 22.3% 유지기간에는 29.4%의 향상을 보였다. 이상의 결과로 보아 독해전략 훈련은 표현력에 어려움을 겪고 있는 정신지체고등학생들의 표현력의 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있다. 따라서 학습 장애나 정신지체학생들에게 적용할 수 있는 다양한 독해전략 훈련 프로그램이 개발되어야 하고 후속연구가 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this this is to find out what effect a reading comprehension strategy training has on expression abilities for the students with mental retardation who are having difficulties in expression. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, three students in a special education class were chosen as subjects. They were all diagnosed second in mental retarded grades by the special education institution with their IQ ranging from 45 to 51 and their SQ(Social Maturity Quotient) ranging from 49 to 59. Experimental design used in this study was multiple probe design across subjects. Experimental treatments were performed 25sessions in total for 12 weeks and the measurement was done every fifth sessions during this period and five measurement were done in total. In addition, for improvement judgement in expression abilities, three types of assessment test items are prepared according to item difficulty: low, middle, and high. The summary of the result of this study is as follows. A reading comprehension strategy training was positively effective in the improvement of expression abilities. Compared with the rate of correct answers in the baseline period, subjects improved by average 22.3% during intervention period and by average 29.4% during the maintenance period. Judging from this results, we can aware that a reading comprehension strategy training has a positive effect on expression improvement. Therefore various reading strategic training programs have to be developed in order to apply to the students with various disabilities including Learning disabilities and mental retardation and the follow-up studies should be kept on.
