본 연구는 이주민의 한국어 의사소통 어려움에 영향을 미치는 변인을 찾고, 어려움 해소에 필요한 학습 기간을 실증적으로 도출하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 한국 사회 이주민 중 다수를 차지하는 이주민근로자, 결혼이주민, 이주민자녀 구성원 728명을 전국적으로 표집, 조사하고, 결측이 없는 461명의 자료에 대해 조건부 과정 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 한국 거주 기간이 직·간접적 경로로 한국어 어려움 인식에 영향을 미치고, 여기에 한국어 학습 기간이 조절 변인으로, 한국어 능력 인식이 매개 변인으로 작용하며, 어려움 인식의 출발점이 성인과 미성년에게서 달리 나타남을 밝혔다. 또한 한국에 거주하기 시작하면서부터 매주 4시간 정도 한국어를 학습한다면, 한국어 의사소통이 별로 어렵지 않다고 느끼게 되기까지 성인 이주민은 최소 6.8년, 미성년 이주민은 최소 2.9년이 필요하다는 결과를 도출하였다.

This study aims to find contributing variables to immigrants` difficulty of communication in Korean, and the learning period required to overcome the difficulty based on the empirical evidence. A comprehensive survey was conducted on 728 people, who were from three immigrant groups (Immigrant Worker, Marriage Immigrant, Immigrant Child) living in Korea. 461 participants` responses, with no missing values, were analyzed using Hayes(2013)`s model 8. Findings are as follows: First, Length of Residence plays a role in immigrants` Self-awareness of Difficulty through the direct path and indirect path. In addition, Self-awareness of Korean Language Ability affected it as a mediator, and Learning Period as a moderator on the direct or indirect path. Moreover, adult immigrants had higher Self-awareness of Difficulty than children upon their arrival. The difference in the degree of difficulty reported by adult and child immigrants was maintained through the learning period. Second, if an adult immigrant continues to learn Korean 4 hours a week from arrival, s/he will overcome the difficulty after 6.8 years, and a child immigrant, under the same condition, needs 2.9 years.
