이 글은 목적은 한국 현대 독서사를 인식하고 서술하는 데 요구되는 여러 요소와 방법에 대해 고구하고자 한 것이다. 그중에서도 이 글에서는 독서사의 주체와 베스트셀러 문화에 대해 주로 다루었다. 1절에서는 한국의 현대 독서문화가 거시적인 문화사와 정치와 맺는 관계를 중심으로 ``독서 문화``의 개념과 ``독서 문화사``의 의미에 대해 썼다. 2절에서는 독서사 기술에 있어서의 텍스트와 주체 문제를 논했다. 특히 독서의 젠더와 글로벌리즘 문제를 새로 제기했다. 3절에서는 베스트셀러를 통해 사회사?문화사를 기술하고자 할 때의 문제들에 대해 다루었다. 베스트셀러는 독서 문화사의 대상(``무엇을``)과 행태(``어떻게``)를 함께 내포한다. 근대 이후 베스트셀러는 일종의 문화적 ``현상``이며 제도이다. 독서사의 시간(한국 현대 독서사의 시기구분 문제)과 베스트셀러의 계보학 등의 문제에 대한 논의는 향후의 과제로 남겨둔다.

This essay is intended to review the various elements and methods required to recognize and describe the Korean modern history of reading. Among them, this essay mainly discussed the subject of the history of reading and the bestseller culture. The first chapter is about the meaning of the concept ``reading culture`` and ``history of reading culture`` regarding Korean modern reading culture`s relationship with the macro-cultural history and politics. The chapter 2 argued the text and subject matter in description of history of reading. In particular, I raised a new issue of gender and globalism in reading. The third chapter dealt with the issue of describing the social history and cultural history through bestseller. Bestseller implies both the object of cultural history (``what``) and reading behavior (``how``). After modern, bestseller is a kind of cultural ``phenomenon`` and institution. However, problems such as history of reading`s time (period classification of Korean modern history of reading) and the genealogy of bestseller are left to future tasks.
