2012년 처음 등장한 ``고전``과목은 외적으로는 교육과정에 작용하는 사회적, 정책적 요구를 반영하고, 내적으로는 기존의 국어교육에 대한 자체적인 반성과 불만을 해소해야 하는 과제에 대한 대응 과정에서 탄생하였다. 본고는 ``고전``과목이 놓여 있는 이러한 맥락과 정체성에 주목하여 국어교육이 오랫동안 고민해온 통합의 문제를 살펴보았다. 이에 따라 본고에서는 국어교육에서 논의되었던 통합의 맥락과 국어 활동에 대한 인식을 점검해 보고, 국어과 내 여러 영역에서 국어 활동에 대한 인식이 여전히 다양한 함축을 갖는다는 점과 이에 따라 ``고전`` 과목의 내용이 아직 충분히 통합적인 모습을 갖추지 못하고 있음을 확인하였다. 고전을 향유하는 다양한 활동들은 과거와 현재가 중첩되어 있는 고전의 속성 상이미 통합적인 국어 활동으로서의 성격을 갖는다. 아직까지 ``고전``과목이 비록 국어 활동에 대한 새로운 정의를 제시하지는 못하였지만,역설적으로 ``고전``과목은 국어 활동이 지닌 통합적인 성격이 재발견되기를 요구하고 있다.

For years, there were frequent revisions of National Curriculum and the composition of subjects in Korean Language Curriculum has been changed according to the internal and external conditions. This thesis analyzed the new subject, < Classic > which was born in 2012 Curriculum especially relation with integration. There had been long argument about the integration of scopes in Korean Education. Each scope have tried to integrate other scopes within there logics and nowadays we can find the possibility that various scopes can be integrated. To appreciate classics essentially contains of diverse activities and the most activities are language activities; reading, thinking, communicating etc. In it`s present state the Curriculum of < Classic > doesn`t reveal the definite answer to the meaning of Korean Language activities, but various activities which have been accumulated through language culture will show the way to the integration.
