이 논문은 대학 글쓰기 교육에서 비판적 읽기-쓰기의 수업모형에 관한 연구의 일환으로서, 광고 분석 수업의 예를 들어 ``수사학적 방법``을 교육에 적용할 때의 가능성과 의미를 살펴보고 더 나은 방향을 제안하고자 하였다. 본 연구자가 설정한 수업 목표는 ①수사학적 설득의 3요소 분석을 통해 설득이 어떻게 이루어지는가를 이해하는 것, ②광고가 특수한 목표를 가진 설득적 텍스트임을 이해하고 설득의 상황과 매체 특성에 따른 비판적 읽기 능력을 키우는 것, ③비판적 읽기-쓰기 교육의 핵심인 분석과 해석, 비평의 기준을 이해하고 개념 적용 연습을 하는 것 ④비판적 읽기-쓰기를 통합·연결시켜 문제 설정 능력을 기르는 것이었다. 학생들은 텍스트의 ``설득력``이 ``논리``를 통해서만 이루어지는 것이 아니라 파토스와 에토스라는 또 다른 측면을 통해서도 이루어진다는 것을 이해할 수 있었다.(①) 한편 광고의 설득이 주로 ``파토스``를 통해서 이루어진다는 데 쉽게 동의하면서, 로고스나 에토스 효과의 매체 특성을 이해하는 데는 다소 어려움을 보여주었다. 이는 매체 특성을 고려한 ``비판적 읽기``보다는 지금까지 ``이데올로기 비판``에 치중한 단조로운 해석과 평가가 유도된 때문이 아닌가 하는 성찰을 하게 했다.(②) 광고 분석 수업에서 ``좋은 예``와 ``나쁜 예``를 선택해서 발표하도록 한 것은 학생들에게 ``비판적 읽기-쓰기`` 교육의 요체인 ``해석과 비평``의 기준을 스스로 판단하고 설정하게 하는 의미가 있었다.(③) 학생들은 과제 발표 준비 과정에서 자연스럽게 ``광고의 목적``에 대한 전제를 의심하고 그와 갈등하는 가치 즉 ``기업의 사회적 책임``을 인식하면서 ``비판적 읽기``를 할 수 있었다.(④) 발표와 토론 과정에서 비평 기준, 분석·해석의 세부에 대한 의견과 취향의 차이가 학생들 사이에서 뚜렷이 표출됐다. 그 다양성을 폭넓게 수용하면서도 ``더 바람직한`` 해석과 비평을 위한 설득의 경연과 협력학습의 장으로 될 가능성을 얼마나 실현시킬 수 있는가가 ``비판적 읽기-쓰기 교육``의 수업모형을 짜는 데 고려돼야 하는 바, 미진한 이 부분에 대해서는 후속연구를 통해 보완하고자 한다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of rhetorical analysis method in college freshmen`s reading-writing education. By focusing on the analysis of advertisements, this paper examines a critical reading-writing model and proposes a better improvement way of college students` reading-to-write. Instructional objectives were established as following. 1) Understanding the way of persuasion through rhetorical three concepts analysis(Logos, Pathos, Ethos). 2) Understanding unique characteristics of the advertisement as persuasion-text and improving the critical reading abilities. 3) Exercising the application of concepts as criteria of analysis, interpretation, criticism. 4) Integration of critical reading & writing education, and improvement of the students` abilities about setting problem of essay writing. In college freshmen`s reading-writing education, they should be allowed to choose their interesting text, to have more experiences of voluntary choice, and to express different kinds of taste and diversity. The construction of critical reading-writing class model needs to consider the characteristics of various texts, readers and writers.
