글쓰기 방법론을 연구하는 분야에서 고전의 활용은 매우 유용하다. 현재의 글쓰기 연구는, 시대의 요구를 담아내고 개개인의 생각을 표현하는 데 효율적인 방법론을 찾고 있다. 옛 문장가들 또한 이 고민에서 자유로울 수 없었다. 이런 점에서 고전 문장론에 대한 연구는 현재의 글쓰기 담론에 중요한 단서를 제공할 것으로 기대한다. 조선후기로 접어들면서 수사의 중요성을 인식하며 매우 자세한 작법의 실천 원리가 전개되었다. 그 가운데 하나가 병법과 관련된 것이다. 글쓰기와 병법은 닮은 점이 매우 많다. 병법에 형세 따른 다양한 전술이 있듯, 문장에도 소재와 쓰임에 따라 다양한 전략이 있다. 병사가 모여서 부대를 이루고 이를 전략적으로 배치하여 승리하듯, 작법에서도 단어가 모여 구와 문장을 이루며 한 편의 글이 완성된다. 또한 전장에서는 목숨을 내놓고 싸우듯 문장에서도 과장(科場)이나 상소문을 통해 패권을 놓고 치열한 싸움을 벌였다. 이렇듯 닮은 점이 많은 두 분야는 자연스럽게 연결되어, 글쓰기를 설명하는 부분에서 병법의 개념이 유추된다. 김석주·박지원·이건창은 조선 후기를 대표하는 문장가이다. 김석주는 과거 시험의 일인자로서 시험 준비 서적 출판을 활발히 하였다. 독서와 작문이 다른 층위 이면서도, 고문의 체득은 곧 자신의 문장이 한층 높아지는 학습 방법이 되었다. 김석주는 효율적인 독서 전략을 후배에게 권유했다. 박지원은 법고창신의 정신을 내세우며 당시 문단을 일신했던 문인이다. 그는 글쓰기를 군대의 조직과 병법에 비유하여 설명하였다. 이건창은 구한말 급변하는 국제정세 속에서 국가의 공문서를 담당했던 인물이다. 그는 모의 훈련의 과정과 흡사하게, 글을 쓴 다음 스스로 1차 검증을 거친 다음, 고문과 비교를 통해 2차 검증을 거친 뒤 세상에 내놨다. 문장론을 병법과 관련하여 제시한, 이들의 견해들을 살펴보는 것은 현대의 글쓰기 연구에 시사하는 점이 적지 않다.
Application of classic is very valuable for study on writing method. It has been long that writing attract concern of people. Today`s study on writing is finding the efficient method. The old days`s writers was not free from this worry. The highest-level state examination paper and the appeal paper to king was so important as changing the life and destiny. Therefore in such aspect, the old days`s writers was worry about writing much more than today`s. So study on syntax of classic play a important role as a teaching to today`s writing discourse. The writing discourse in the early and middle period in the Joseon Dynasty was focused on the confrontation the moral philosophy with sentence, in other words, content and expression. But there was no any methodology about good writing and how to study and train the writing. This trend was changed gradually. Getting in to the latter period in the Joseon Dynasty, very detailed skill on the writing was spread out. Connection writing with the military strategy is the typical instance. Kim Seok-ju, Park Ji-won, Lee Kun-chang are the representative writer in the latter period in the Joseon Dynasty. It is the very valuable in today`s writing study to research their suggestion about the writing method connected with the military strategy.
