본 연구는 성인발달장애 자녀를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 질적 연구를 실시하여, 학령기 이후 발달장애인에게 필요한 평생교육 지원방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구 참여조건은 지적장애, 자폐성장애를 포함하는 성인발달장애 자녀의 어머니로 자신의 의견과 감정, 생각을 표현하는데 어려움이 없고 평생교육 경험에 대해 자료수집이 가능한 자로 정하였다. 이러한 기준에 부합하는 성인발달장애 자녀의 어머니 5인을 대상으로 개별 심층면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 연속적 비교분석법에 의해 분석되었고, 삼각측정법과 연구 참여자 검토기법을 사용하여 내적 타당도와 신뢰도를 확보하였다. 그 결과 2개의 대주제와 5개의 상위주제가 도출되었다. ‘평생교육, 그 외로운 여정 : 발달장애자녀를 둔 어머니의 삶의 무게, 발달장애인의 끝없는 평생교육, 평생교육 서비스의 좁은 문’, ‘평생교육, 마지막 남은 연결고리 : 혼자지기에 너무 무거운 짐, 평생교육에 거는 기대 ’이다. 도출된 주제를 중심으로 발달장애인을 위한 효과적인 평생교육 지원 방안을 논의하였다. 본 연구는 발달장애인자녀의 의견을 가장 가까이에서 대변하는 어머니의 목소리가 반영되었다는 점과 이를 바탕으로 평생교육 지원방안을 모색하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to explore lifelong education support strategy for adults with developmental disabilities by interviewing mothers. The subjects of this study were mothers of adults with developmental disabilities including intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders who can express their opinion, emotion and thought and can provide lifelong education experience throughout the life-cycle. Researchers interviewed 5 mothers respectively. Collected data were analyzed using constant comparative method. Researchers verified internal validity and reliability using triangulation method and member checks. This study revealed 2 main issues and 5 top issues: ‘Lifelong education, a lonely journey’(the burden of mothers of adults with developmental disabilities, endless lifelong education, narrow gate of lifelong education service), ‘Lifelong education, the last connection’(a heavy burden which cannot be lifted alone, desire for lifelong education). Researchers discussed effective lifelong education support strategy for people with developmental disabilities based on these issues. This study reflected mother`s opinion who speaks for people with developmental disabilities and explored lifelong education support strategy.
