The main purpose of this paper is to examine the evolution of the usage of literature in consideration of Sartre``s literary ‘Engagement’ and also Deleuze/Guattari``s ‘Minor Literature’. In fact, it is just after the end of the Second World War that Sartre estabilished a theory of literary ‘Engagement’. The presence of the enemy that should be defeated is so real in this time. One can list, among others, Germany, the Collaborators and the bourgeois class, etc. This is followed by the Manichaean attitude of Sartre by which litterature must be ‘All’, that is to say, literature must contribute to the achievement of the ‘total man’ and the construction of Utopia. Nontherless, this Sartrean attitude towards literature weakens over time. It is around the May 1968 that Deleuze/Guattari raise the following question : what can literature do still socially? This question is significant, especially since this time was a debut of a literary crisis. In this situation, Deleuze/Guattari attempted to establish the theory of ‘Minor Literature’. This theory focuses on the destructive power of the minor language, therefore the political and revolutionary function of literature. Between these two usages of literature, there are common and different points. The Sartrean commitment aims at a total revolution, while Deleuez/Guattari``s ‘Minor Literature’ does a molecular revolution. Paradoxically, also occur the limitations of these two usages of literature : contrary to that literature is power-weakened in Sartre because of its overload and overestimation, literature can suffer from a practical impuissance of the minor language in Deleuze/Guattari. Despite all this, the meaning of these two usages of literature is not insignificant exactly in the aspect that they show a path on which literature plays a role as the watchman of our time called as the critcal time of the literature.
