과학자와 예술가는 서로의 영토를 동경한다. 그들은 동일한 개념을 초월하고 또 습합하여 또 다른 결과물 을 창조한다. 본 연구는 과학 이론과 과학자들을 바라보는 화가 의 시선, 회화에 대한 과학자들의 호기심, 화가 자신 도 인지하지 못한 과학적 회화 등 다양한 테마를 과 학적으로 표현한 회화의 상호작용과 융합 개념을 분 석하여 제시한다. 본 연구의 목적은 서로 다른 분야처럼 느껴지는 과 학과 회화를 보다 친근하고 흥미롭게 하여 융합시대 의 유익한 연구 영역을 확장하려는 데 있다. 본 연구는 고전주의, 인상주의, 입체파 등 다양한 사조와 기법을 통해 나타난 회화를 물리학, 화학, 생 물학, 의학, 광학, 공학 등의 시각에서 고찰한 50점의 작품 중 22점을 표본으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 물리학, 화학, 생물학, 의학, 광학, 공학 이 평준화되어 거의 비슷한 빈도수가 나타났고 다음 3가지 특징을 추출하였다. 첫째, 과학과 회화는 과학기술의 발전과 더불어 상호 작용하고 융합한다. 둘째, 과학자는 화가의 작품 속에 은닉된 과학적 진리를 향한다. 셋째, 과학자와 화가는 시대적, 정치적 필요성에 의해 상호작용하고 융합한다. 연구 과정 중 특이하다고 생각되는 사실은 회화에 대 한 과학자들의 집요하고 끊임없는 호기심이 회화를 더 욱 새롭고, 가치 있고, 신비롭게 만들어 준다는 것이다

Scientists and artists admire each other``s works. They transcend a concept, adopt each other``s principles, and create something new. This study goes over artists`` perspectives of science and scientists, scientists`` curiosity about paintings, and scientific paintings that artists were unaware of all of which will be discussed and analyzed in terms of interactions and converging concepts between science and paintings. The purpose of this study is to reveal close interrelations between science and paintings which otherwise seem unrelated with each other and thus extend the field of "convergence research." This study analyzes 22 samples out of 50 paintings of various styles including classicism, impressionism, cubism that were previously interpreted from the perspectives of physics, chemistry, biology, medical science, optical science, and engineering. Results indicated that physics, chemistry, biology, medical science, optical science, and engineering were observed almost equally. In addition, there were three notable findings. First, science and paintings interact and converge with each other with the advancement of technology. Second, scientists look for scientific operations underneath the paintings. Lastly, scientists and artists interact and converge with each other by the temporal and political necessity. One last remark is that scientists`` persistent curiosity about paintings makes the paintings even more valuable and mysterious.
