미당의 ‘신라 정신’은 그가 탐색한 ‘신라’ 표상에 바탕을 두어 산출된 것인데, 그 구체적인 면모는『신라초』를 통해 살필 수 있다. 신라 정신은 물론『신라초』를 통해 담대하게 전개되지만, 이 시집 전후(前後)에 출간된 시집들을 통해 추적할 수 있는 미당의 전통 지향적이고 동양적인 사유의 노정(路程)에서 함영(涵泳)하고 있다. 또한, 신라 정신의 각 내용들은 개별작품에 전일(全一)하게 반영된 것만은 아니며, 때로는 교합(交合)하여 조봉(遭逢)한다. 본고는 당대의 사회.문화.역사.정치적 현실에 대한 미당의 문학적 실천보다는 신라 정신을 기조(基調)로 펼쳐지는 시세계 내부에서 나타나는 통시적 움직임의 한 단면에 주목해 보았다. 구체적으로는 신라 정신 탐색 초기의 작품으로서 그간 주목 받지 못했던「善德女王讚」을 재독(再讀)하고 분석하고, 아울러 이 시편과 농밀한 관계에 있는「善德女王의 말씀」을 비교.고찰함으로써 신라 정신 탐색 초기의 궤적을 살폈다.「선덕여왕찬」은 현세적 삶의 긍정과 사랑의 실천이라는 신라 정신을 담지하고 있는 최초의 시이다. 이 작품을 계승한「선덕여왕의 말씀」에서 포착할 수 있는 중요한 변화는, 이상적인 신라 세계에 대한 미당의 목마름이 한층 커졌다는 것이다. 이러한 염원은 선덕여왕을 넘어 다양한 신라 정신을 수용하여 본격적으로 시화한『신라초』의 작업으로 이어진다

Midang’s Silla Spirit is come out based on his exploration of Silla representation. The specific aspect of Silla Spirit is can looking through『Shilla-Cho』. But by it is deployed with confidence in this collection, Silla Spirit is included in Midang’s tradition directed and Oriental thoughts as can be seen the front and the rear collections. This study aims at poetic imagery and its implications of Queen Seondeok which is exposed in Midang`s early exploration of Silla Spirit rather than the creator``s response of contemporary society, culture, history, and political realities. Tried to read again「善德女王讚」and compared with「善德女王의 말씀」. And revealed part of early exploration of Silla Spirit Through this work. The contents of two pieces is temporal life of optimism and symbol of love.「善德女王의 말씀」inherited「善德女王讚」. Important changes that can intercept in「善德女王의 말씀」is the widening of thirst for Silla Spirit.
