이 논문은 초등학생이 자신의 국어 교과서에 실려 있는 정보를 전달하는 제재에 대해 얼마나 흥미를 느끼는지를 탐구하였다. 더 나아가, 이 연구는 교과서에 수록되어 있는 정보 전달 제재가 초등학생으로 하여금 흥미를 느끼도록 하는 요인이 무엇인지, 흥미를 느끼지 못하도록 하는 요인이 무엇인지를 질적으로 탐구하였다. 이를 위하여, 138명의 초등학교 4∼6학년 학생들이 참여했으며 자료 수집을 위해서 <국어 교과서 정보 전달 텍스트 흥미 설문지>가 사용되었다. 정보 전달 제재의 흥미에 대한 양적 분석 결과에 따르면, 정보 전달 텍스트에 대한 초등학생의 흥미 평균은 3.02점이었다. 이것은 초등학생이 자신의 국어 교과서에 실려 있는 정보 전달 텍스트에 대해 ‘보통 정도’의 흥미를 느끼고 있음을 나타낸다. 질적 분석 결과에 따르면, 정보 전달 제재가 초등학생으로 하여금 흥미를 느끼도록 하는 요인은 ‘개인적 흥미(감정 관련 관심 및 가치 관련 관심), 텍스트 정보성, 동일시, 이해 용이성’으로 나타났다. 반면에, 정보 전달 제재가 초등학생으로 하여금 흥미를 느끼지 못하도록 하는 요인은 ‘이해 어려움, 낮은 정보성, 개인의 무관심, 지루한 텍스트 구조’로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 연구 결과는 정보 전달 제재를 보다 흥미롭게 만드는데 필요한 구체적인 방안을 제공해 준다.

The purposes of this study were to investigate elementary schoolers`` interest on their Korean language textbooks and to explore factors contributing text interest. For the study, 138 4∼6th grade students participated in the study and ``Checklist for Interest on Informational Text`` was used for the data collection. Results from the study documented that 4∼6th grade schoolers`` average score of interest was 3.02 in the 5-point scale. It showed that they were not much interested in expository writings in the textbooks. Additionally, qualitative analyses of data shows that readers`` interest in informational text is related to various characteristics of informational text such as readers`` personal interest, character identification, ease of comprehension, and amount of information. On the other hand, readers`` disinterest in informational text is related to various characteristics of text such as readers`` personal disinterest, difficulty of comprehension, low quality of information, and boring text structure. In this regard, the study may provide many useful implications for the development of Korean textbooks.
