본 연구는 일반 성인들의 정당한 세상에 대한 믿음, 특히, 분배공정성과 절차공정성이 화병 증상에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 규명하고자 수행되었다. 구체적으로 이들의 소득수준을 포함하여 분배공정성 그리고 절차공정성의 상호작용이 화병 증상에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 수도권 지역에 거주하는 성인 393명을 대상으로 소득수준, 분배공정성, 절차공정성, 화병 증상을 측정하였고, 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 소득수준, 분배공정성, 절차공정성의 삼원상호작용 효과는 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 화병 증상에 대한 분배공정성과 절차공정성간의 상호작용 효과가 소득에 따라 달라진다는 것이다. 소득이 낮은 사람의 경우, 절차가 공정하지 않다고 생각하면 분배공정성에 따른 화병 증상의 정도에는 큰 차이가 없었지만, 절차가 공정하다고 생각하면 분배공정성이 높아짐에 따라 화병 증상의 정도가 줄어드는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 반해, 소득이 높은 사람의 경우 상반된 결과가 나타났는데, 절차가 공정하다고 생각하면 분배공정성에 따른 화병 증상의 정도에는 차이가 없었지만, 절차가 공정하지 않다고 생각하면 분배공정성이 높아짐에 따라 화병 증상의 정도가 줄어드는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 후속연구를 위한 제언과 상담에서의 함의를 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine how beliefs in a just world, especially, distributive and procedural justice beliefs, would influence the level of Hwa-Byung (HB) symptoms. More specifically, we investigated whether interaction of income level, distributive justice belief, and procedural justice belief influences the level of HB symptoms. A total of 393 adults living in Seoul and Metropolitan areas completed dispositional measures of distributive and procedural justice world beliefs, and also a measure of HB symptoms. The results of hierarchical regression analysis revealed a significant 3-way interaction among income level, distributive justice beliefs, and procedural justice beliefs. Such finding implies that the interactive effect of distributive and procedural justice beliefs on the level of HB symptoms was different depending on income level. For low-income individuals, when procedural justice belief was low, no differences on the level of HB symptoms were found in terms of distributive justice belief. However, when procedural justice belief was high, HB symptoms decreased as distributive justice belief became stronger. The opposite findings emerged among high-income individuals. For high procedural justice belief, there were no differences on the level of HB symptoms in terms of distributive justice belief, while for low procedural justice belief, the level of HB symptoms decreased as distributive justice belief became greater. Based on the results, suggestions for further study and implications were discussed.
