이 연구는 (사)한국상담학회에서 검정·배출하고 있는 전문상담사들의 정확한 인력 현황을 조사하여 학회 전문상담사 자격의 질관리와 함께 고려되어야 할 자격의 효용가치 제고를 위한 기초연구로 수행된 것이다. 이를 위해 개발한 현황조사 설문지를 활용, 학회 사이트의 온라인 조사시스템을 통해 전문상담사들의 취업 및 근무현황과 관련한 현황 등을 면밀히 조사하였다. 조사대상은 학회 내 전문상담사 자격 소지자 5,305명 중 34.04%인 1,806명의 유효응답자(1급 전문상담사 741명 중 44.80%인 332명, 2급 전문상담사 4564명 중 1,474명(32.30%)이 응답하였다. 조사 분석 결과 전문상담사들은 교육기관(51.9%), 상담기관(45.6%) 등에서 86.7%가 상담 관련 현직으로 종사하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 세부 취업현황을 살펴보면, 근무형태의 경우 유/무기계약직이 48.2%, 프리랜서 등 시간제가 25.9% 등 74.1%가 불안정한 근무형태를 가지고 있었으며, 연소득의 경우도 2,000만원 이하가 46.3%, 3,000만원 이하가 31.8% 등 78.2%가 우리나라 전체 근로자 평균연봉(3,281만원)에 못 미치는 등 다소 열악한 일자리환경에 노출되어 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 요인들로 인하여 전문상담사들의 진로선택 만족도는 3.43(5점만점)으로 나타났으며, 불만족 사유로도 급여 또는 경제적 수입(88.4%), 사회 내 상담자 및 상담 자체에 대한 낮은 평가 분위기(36.3%) 순으로 나타났다. 아울러 전문상담사들의 현황자료를 성별, 연령별, 최종학력별, 자격 등급별에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있는지도 확인하여 대상별로 지원방안을 마련할 수 있는 기초자료가 될 수 있도록 분석하였다. 이 연구는 그 일차적 목적이 현황 관련 기초자료 확보를 전제로 처음 시도된 만큼, 조사내용의 깊이나결과분석 방법 등에 다소 한계가 있으나, 향후 전문상담사와 관련한 정책 입안 및 지원방안 등의 후속 연구의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대하며 후속 연구를 제안하고 있다.

The aim of this study was to manage and enhance value of the certificate, which is verified and produced by Korean Counseling Association(KCA), by investigating manpower of counseling specialists. For the purpose, Counseling Specialists of KCA participated in online questionnaires about current work status such as employment conditions, working arrangements. The subjects of this study were 1,806(34.04%) out of total Counseling Specialists 5,035 in KCA, involving 332(44.8%) out of total First Grade Counseling Specialists 741, and 1,474(32.3%) out of total Second Grade Counseling Specialists 4,564. As a result of this study, 86.7% out of respondents worked in educational institution(51.9%), counseling institution(45.6%), etc. In case of current condition of employment, 74.1% out of the respondents were in unstable condition involving contract worker(48.2%) and part-time job(25.9%). In case of income, 78.2% out of the respondents were under the average annual income of urban workers, 32,810,000 won. Because of these issues, job satisfaction as a counselor was 3.43 on 5 Likert scale and the reasons of the unsatisfaction included income problem(88.4%), socially underestimated state(36.3%) in order. The data was analysed according to sex, age, academic state, and certificate grade to identify the difference and to plan how to support the Counseling Specialists. Because this study was first-attempt to gain foundational data about Counseling Specialists, it had limitations in both contents and methodology. Additionally, suggestions for the follow-up study about how to make policies and support the Counseling Specialists were proposed.
