개인이 스스로를 돌보는 효과적인 방법, 자신의 과거와 내면을 성찰함으로써, 즉 돌아 봄으로써 구축할 수 있었던 이상적인 좌표 등을 살펴보는 것이 본고의 주요 테마이다. 이러한 목표를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 선택한 대상은 沈魯崇이 남긴 病의 서사인데, 서사가 지닌 구체성과 일상성, 내밀한 것에서부터 枚擧通觀하며 철저히 반성하는 양상 등이 심노숭의 병 관련 서사를 선택한 주요 근거이다. 그 고찰의 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선 ‘돌보기`의 측면에서는 아래에 보이는 양상과 의미를 찾을 수 있었다. 첫째, 攝生의 측면에서 자신의 몸과 마음을 꼼꼼히 관찰했기 때문에, 그가 남긴 병의 서사는 언제나 상세한 양상을 띠고 있었다. 두 편의 病錄을 비롯한 다양한 병의 서사를 통해 자신의 몸과 마음에 관련된 사소한 이상 징후도 놓치지 않고 기록했다는 점에서 그 세밀함을 분명하게 살필 수 있었다. 둘째, 단편적이거나 쇄말적인 일상성에 그치지 않고, 警戒의 원칙을 세우는 데까지 나아가 자신의 병을 돌보았다는 점 역시 주목할 만한 특징이다. 결국 구체에서 보편으로 진행되는 그의 관찰과 글쓰기는 스스로를 돌보는 모범적인 양상을 보여주었고, 자신의 몸과 마음을 방기하지 않고 자신의 통제 아래에 넣음으로써 삶의 주체가 되려고 했다는 점이 ‘돌보기`로서의 병의 서사가 지닌 의미이다. 다음으로, ‘돌아보기`의 측면에서 심노숭이 남긴 병의 서사를 살펴본 결과 다음과 같은 양상과 의미를 찾을 수 있었다. 첫째, 자신의 과거와 내면을 성찰하고 참회함으로써 이전과 달라진 자신의 모습을 서술했다는 점이다. 이러한 면모는 조선중기 이전까지 거의 보이지 않던 양상으로서 병의 서사는 물론, 자기 서사라는 측면에서도 주목할 만한 특징이다. 둘째, 자신이 실천했던 성찰과 반성을 구체적이면서도 개성적으로 표현했다는 점에도 역시 주목할 필요가 있다. 왜냐하면 글쓰기를 통해 모호한 사유를 명징하게 형상화했을 뿐만 아니라, 당대 인물 서사나 記事類 산문의 특징적인 흐름 속에서 그 누구도 아닌 바로 자신의 정체성을 구성하고, 개성적 자아를 표출했기 때문이다. 이러한 양상과 의미 등은 심노숭이 남긴 병의 서사뿐만 아니라 자기 서사로까지 범위를 확대했을 경우에도 여전히 작지 않은 가치를 갖는다. 다만 조선 후기라는 환경 속에서 그가 지니고 있었던 경제 인식이나 사상적 지향에 대한 고찰이 더해진다면, 심노숭이 지니고 있었던 개인과 사회에 대한 의식을 조금 더 입체적인 측면에서 살펴볼 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

This paper focused on the way to take great care of oneself and the way to construct one`s ideal coordinate by reflecting on oneself. For achieving this aim, this report focused on Shim, Ro-soong(沈魯崇)`s illness narratives, because his illness narratives were detailed, usual, and self-examinable. With a result that there are following features. In the first place, I researched the ideal way to take care of oneself by studying on Shim, Ro-soong` self-care. With a result that there are following features. First, his illness narratives are detailed. This feature is verified clearly in letters to his doctor[病錄]. Second, his illness narratives narrated from everyday affairs to universal principals. As a result, his illness narratives showed the ideal way of self-care, and showed Shim, Ro-soong`s self-command. These features are the value that we found in his illness narratives. In the second place, I researched the way to construct one`s ideal coordinate by studying Shim, Ro-soong`s self-reflection. With a result that there are following features. First, we can see that he regretted his wrongdoing, and we can also find that he was changed into another man in his illness narratives. These features are meaningful in the epic of self as well as the illness narrative, because those are newly risen in late Joseon Dynasty. Second, Shim, Ro-soong`s illness narratives were written in characteristically personal style. He constructed his identity and his individuality by expressing his thought and feeling clearly like a biography and the description of an incident in late Joseon Dynasty. Judging from these, Shim, Ro-soong`s illness narratives are very meaningful. By the way, if we study on his economic mind and ideological foundation, we will understand his view of life and his view of society from various angles. I will study on these subjects in the next paper.
