우선, 본 연구를 통하여 한반도가 통일되는 과정에 소요되는 비용은 국내는 물론 해외의 일부 학자와 연구기관은 자의적인 기준과 판단에 의해 천문학적 규모의 추정치를 경쟁적으로 공포하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 한반도의 통일비용에 대한 구체적인 개념이 정립되지 않은 채, 통일시점과 시나리오를 설정하고 비현실적인 분석모형이 적용된 막대한 규모의 통일비용은 바람직한 통일 논의를 가로막고 있는 것이 현실이다. 이와 같은 문제의식을 바탕으로, 본 연구에서는 한반도 통일에 대한 올바른 인식을 위해, 우선 오늘날 한국 사회에서 무분별하게 남용되고 있는 통일비용의 개념을 분명히 하고자 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 한국 사회의 일각에 존재하고 있는 통일비용에 대한 오해와 편견을 불식시키고, 올바른 통일관을 정립하는 데 일조하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 이번 연구에서는 이미 1990년에 재통일의 위업을 달성하였던 독일의 사례를 통하여, 통일비용에 대한 왜곡된 인식을 바로잡고, 한반도 통일비용과 관련된 선행 연구의 한계와 문제점을 지적하였다. 다시 말해, 과도하게 부풀려져 올바른 통일관을 왜곡시키고 있는 통일비용에 대한 기존의 연구 성과물에 대한 재검토와 함께 한반도 통일에 대한 일반의 인식과 의미를 새롭게 하고 그 필연성을 강조하고자 하였다.

The research on the so-called `unification costs` associated with the reunification of the Korean peninsula has been done a lot. The problem is that the results differ greatly depending on the research subject. Obvious fact is that those estimates were reached astronomical sum. But most of them were subject to arbitrary judgments and criteria. A number of research results have pointed out that this is not done without establishing the concept of unification costs. Thus the present study aims to correct perception of the unification. In other words, it is intended to clarify the concept of unification costs and recklessly abused today in Korea. Also eliminated a vague concerns over the cost of unification and social concerns in some of Korea was to establish a correct perception of unity. This was a lesson for the case of Germany, who achieved reunification in 1990. It sought to rectify the distorted perception of the cost of unification through the example of Germany. In other words, it pointed out the limitations and problems associated with previous studies unification costs. In other words, excessively inflated been reviewed existing research achievements for the unification costs and correct distortions awareness about unification. Through these facts rectify the awareness of unification stressed the significance and necessity.
