이 연구는 중등학교 저경력 남교사의 행정업무 적응에 관한 자서전적 이야기이다. 4년동안 연구자 본인이 겪은 교직 적응 경험에 대한 내러티브를 소재로 삼아 행정업무 적응과 관련된 경험을 분석하고 그 의미를 탐색하였다. 연구 결과에 따라, 중등학교 저경력 남교사의 행정업무 적응과정을 업무파악, 업무적응, 업무심화의 3단계로 구분하였다. 먼저 저경력 남교사가 업무파악 단계에서 겪게 되는 경험은 교직 임용과 동시에 다른 교사들이 기피하는 생활지도부 교내계 업무를 맡으면서 받게 되는 축하와 동정으로 시작한다. 처음에는 부서에 큰 도움이 되지는 못하지만, 동료교사와 관리자의 도움으로 작은 일부터 배워나간다. 다음 업무적응 단계에서는 원치 않는 생활지도부 기획 업무를 맡으면서 많은 업무에 시달리게 되지만, 거의 매일 늦은 시간까지 행정업무를 수행하여 관리자로부터 인정을 받기 시작한다. 하지만, 이에 대한 적절한 지원과 보상은 실망스럽다. 마지막 업무심화 단계에서도 생활지도부 기획 업무를 이어가며 작년과 비슷한 성격의 많은 업무를 맡게 된다. 하지만 업무의 고른 분배와 조정, 작년의 업무경험을 토대로 한결 수월하게 업무를 수행하게 되었고 이에 따라 관리자의 인정 역시 계속되었다. 이 연구를 통해 새로운 시각으로 중등학교 저경력 남교사의 교직 적응 과정을 바라봄으로써 예비교사에게 실천적인 지식 형성을, 현직교사에게 자기반성의 기회를 제공할 것으로 기대한다.

This is a narrative inquiry about the experiences of a novice male teacher`s adaptation to administrative work in secondary school. The narrative is based on a 4 year observation about the adaptation of a new teacher to school life wherein I analyzed the personal experiences surrounding the performance of administrative duties. The adaptation to the school life was comprised of 3 parts : grasping basic tasks, task adaptation, and progressing business. In the first stage, I was in charge of unfamiliar workloads and participating not only within, but also outside of school government associations. That position is welcomed as the first job for a beginning teacher, but is also regarded as work other teachers want to avoid. At the beginning of the first stage, even if I was not helpful for my department, I could learn the smaller tasks with the help of the manager and co-workers. In the second stage, also known as the adaptation stage, I was placed with the planning team manager of student affairs, which I didn`t want to take. Despite the heavy workload, my time management skill improved and I was given my credit for this successful achievement. However, I found that the proper reward or support didn`t meet my expectations. In the last stage, I continued to handle the same work and dealt with the similar tasks. Luckily, I managed to the work efficiently thanks to the fair distribution and adjustment of work. Still, I got the credit for working hard from the president. Throughout this study, it is expected that the newcomers can gain practical knowledge about the teaching profession while experienced teachers can use this opportunity for self-reflection.
