Multimedia materials may not be an essential element in the foreign language learning. However, they can play the excellent roles as auxiliary textbooks or supportive teaching materials for the native Korean teachers teaching abroad with many strong points; motivation for learners, offering authenticity, activating input and schema, inducement of positive inclination toward learning process and so on. This study discusses the usefulness of multimedia materials as auxiliary textbooks based on the cases of < Audio Visual Korean >1 and 2 of Peking University Korean department from 2011 to 2013 and < Korean Intensive Reading > of Shanghai International Studies University Korean department in 2015. In the study, multimedia materials are categorized into the elementary 1 level and the elementary 2 level materials according to Korean competence level of target learners. Visual and audio materials, animated children songs are categorized as of elementary 1 level, whereas K-pop songs, drama, advertisements, materials about poems are categorized as of elementary 2 level. Practical teaching plans with application of multimedia materials are suggested as well for the use in other Korean classes.
