Tremendismo is characterized by the use of coarse language by instinctive as well as cruel and terrible descriptions of situations like murders, killings and injuries. Previous studies on Tremendismo were centered on 『La familia de Pascal Duarte』, one of Cela`s representative novels and excluded his other novels. However, the flow of Tremendismo to Cela is not confined to this novel. His later published novels depict bloody, cruel and disgusting scenes very frequently and in diverse ways. 『La colmena』depicted a dog that had its middle run over by a taxi and was cut in half, and a man killed his wife with an awl. 『San Camilo 1936』depicted a woman who was cruelly murdered and thrown away and had her ears eaten by street cats, and a dog that had its sexual organ cut off with a knife during sex. When we read it, we feel terrible and tremble with fear. In 『Mazurca para dos muertos』, he depicted a man`s body that was tattered like a sieve for filtering as he was hit by dozens of gunshots and a man who was cut into two pieces by a freight train, in which we can find the characteristics of Tremendismo. And therefore, it seems that there is no problem in using this term to describe the novels mentioned.
