본 논문은 한·미 동맹이 한국에 사드 배치를 결정함에 따라 한반도에서의 사드배치가 남북관계뿐만 아니라 동북아 질서에 어떤 결과를 가져올지 그리고 사드배치에 따른 한국의 안보 전략은 어떻게 전개되는 것이 바람직한지 등을 처방적 시각에서 규명해 보는데 의미를 둔 연구이다. 특히 본 논문은 사드 배치 당사국인 한국을 중심으로 사드 배치에 따른 한국이 직면하게 되는 강점· 약점· 기회· 위협요인 등이 무엇인지를 분석하고, 향후 한국정부는 어떤 전략을 추구하는 것이 국익에 도움이 되는지를 목적으로 연구하였다. 이를 위해 SWOT분석방법을 활용하였다. 그 결과 사드 배치에 따른 한국의 ① 강점요소로는 한국의 미사일방어능력 강화와 북한의 군사적 도발 억제 증대 ② 약점요소로는 한국의 자주국방약화, 남북한 관계의 악화 고착, 남남갈등의 격화 ③ 기회요소로는 한·미동맹 강화와 한·일관계의 증대, 미국의 세계군사전략과 아시아 안보전략에 동참하는 기회 마련 ④ 위협요소로는 한·중 관계 악화와 중국의 보복, 동북아를 중심으로 한 신 냉전체제 전개 가능성 등으로 나타났다.

As the THAAD deployment in South Korea is determined, the impact is spreading. South Korea, Japan and USA accept it, but China, North Korea and Russia oppose it strongly. South Korea and USA think it necessary means of protecting against North Korea`s nuclear threat, while China and Russia think it as New Asian strategy of USA in order to isolate China and Russia. The objective of this study is to analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the THAAD deployment in South Korea. The results are as follows: ① the strengths are the reinforcement of South Korean and USA alliance, and the expansion of South Korean and Japan relation, ② the weaknesses are the weakening of independent national defense of South Korea, the aggravation of South Korean and China relation, the aggravation of South and North Korea relation, and the intensification of conflicts within South Korea, ③ the opportunities are the suppression of military provocation of North Korea, the enhancement of political leadership in North and South Korea relation, and the chance of participation in World and Asian strategies of USA, ④ the threats are the economic retaliation of China, and the beginning of New Cold War era in East Asia.
