본 연구는 유아특수교사들을 대상으로 이들이 장애유아들의 어떤 부분을 장점으로 보고 있는지를 알아본 것이다. 이를 위하여 유아특수교사 7명을 대상으로 심층 개별 면담을 실시하였는데, 그 결과 유아특수교사들은 장애유아들의 장점으로 노력하는 태도, 교사와 또래 챙김, 보았던 것 들었던 것 모방, 선호하는 것에 보이는 강한 관심을 들었다. 모방하고자 하는 것이나 선호하는 것에 보이는 강한 관심은 학습이나 학습행동에 발전을 가져올 수 있도록 하는 계기가 될 수 있었다고 한다. 선호할만한 주제나 활동의 교육적 환경 제공으로 학습에 대한 동기를 유발한다면 계속적인 학습을 할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 더불어 유아특수교사들이 이야기한 장애유아들의 장점들에는 장애유아들의 강한 자율성이 내포되어 있다. 그러므로 장애유아를 교육할 때는 그들의 장점과 내재된 자율성을 발휘할 수 있는 교육환경을 만들어 주는 것도 중요하다.

This study explores how early childhood special education teachers see the strengths of children with disabilities. Interviews were conducted with seven teachers who had experience educating children with disabilities in special education classrooms or special education schools. The findings show that young children with disabilities exhibit sincerity, care for their teachers and peers, imitate what they hear and see, and fixate on a single thing that they like. These findings suggest that the strengths of children with disabilities can present opportunities for developing their learning and learning behaviors. Learning environments with children`s preferred topics or activities can facilitate their learning, imitative behaviors, and dedication to learning. A further strength of children with disabilities is their autonomy. It is important to provide educational environments where these children can take advantage of their strengths and exercise their autonomy.
