One of the most decisive elements that contributed to La Celestina`s great success is the world of prostitution. Since the imitators and continuator of the Rojas` work were aware of this, they adopted it, without any exception, in their works to obtain their own literary success. Thus, the theme of prostitution became an essential component of the celestinesque cycle in the first half of the sixteenth century. For the treatment of the whoredom, Feliciano de Silva, the first continuator of La Celestina, inherits the same prostitutes created by Fernando de Rojas and also puts the events occurred in the hypotext to use in his text, but, at the same time, he takes the world of prostitution presented in La Celestina to another direction describing it more colorfully and comically. While Rojas` motive for presenting the subject of prostitution consists in the attack on the nobiliary society, Silva reflects in more detail than Rojas the reality of the whoredom of his age through the presentation of a public whore and the clash between public and clandestine prostitution. In addition, the author exposes us the dark aspect of Spanish society of the moment hiding it behind the laughter and love of the world of prostitution.
