본 연구는 한국 맞벌이 여성들이 일-가정 양립을 하면서 어떠한 경험을 하고 있는지를 살펴보고 이를 통해 일-가정 양립 경험에 대한 개념적 구조를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 만18세 미만의 자녀를 적어도 한 명 이상 두고 6∼20년의 직장경력을 가진 맞벌이 여성 10명을 대상으로 “일도 하고, 가정도 꾸려나가면서 어떤 경험을 하고 있는가?”를 초점질문으로 인터뷰를 실시하여 그들이 일-가정 양립경험에 대해 어떤 개념적 구성을 하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 인터뷰 자료를 바탕으로 최종적으로 84개의 진술문을 도출하여 다차원척도법 및 위계적 군집분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 `아이 - 직장` 및 `주변과 함께 대처 - 나 홀로 대처`의 두 차원이 나왔고 (1) 맞벌이 지속을 위해 남편과의 협력을 기대, (2) 제도적 한계에도 불구하고 맞벌이가 주는 개인적 유익, (3) “엄마 직장인”이 직장에서 경험하는 어려움, (4) 혼자서 버텨내야 하는 힘겨움, (5) 이러지도 저러지도 못하는 진퇴양난, (6) 한계를 체감하면서도 아이를 위해 최선을 다함, (7) 대신할 수 없는 엄마의 빈자리 때문에 아이가 늘 마음에 걸림 의 7개의 군집이 산출되었다. 본 연구의 결과에 대한 의의와 한계를 논의하였다.

The present study explored what and how the Korean working mothers experience between work and family using concept mapping method. Research participants were ten Korean employed mothers ranged in work experience from 6 to 20 years, and having at least one child. The focus interview question was “What are your personal experiences of integrating work and family?” Based on interview materials, eventually we extracted 84 statements and conducted multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. Results showed that the Korean employed mothers construct their work and family integration experience along with two dimensions, “Parenting-Working” and “Cope with others and Lonely struggles”. Moreover, the Korean employed mothers` internal notions of work and family integration were clustered into seven themes. The seven clusters were (1) Expecting spousal support to maintain double earning, (2) Personal benefits from work and family integration, (3) Difficulties at work as a “Working moms”, (4) Lonely struggles to sustain work and family, (5) Feeling stuck, (6) Parenting stresses due to limited time, and (7) Feeling sorry for children. Finally, limitation of current study and implications for future study and practice were discussed.
